Troy Nesmith '98 (Men's Basketball)
put the Golden Knights on the national scene during his men's basketball career at Gannon. The former guard averaged 23.8 points per game while shooting 43.8 percent from three-point range and 87.5 percent from the free throw line during his two-year career. He was named Basketball Times NCAA Division II Player of the Year as a senior in 1997. Nesmith was a three-time All-American, being named to both the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and Daktronics All-America first teams as a senior. He earned NABC All-America second-team accolades as a junior. Academically, Nesmith was just as good. He landed a spot on the GTE Academic All-America second team as a senior.

Nesmith is Gannon's all-time leader in scoring average with his average being 4.6 points per game more than any other Golden Knight in the program's 68-year history. He ranks second all-time at Gannon in free throw percentage and third in three-point field goal percentage. Nesmith concluded his collegiate career by being named 1997 GLIAC Player of the Year. He was a two-time All-GLIAC first-team selection and a two-time GLIAC All-Defensive first-team honoree. Nesmith was also selected to play in the 1997 NCAA Division II All-Star Game.
