Sterling Pierce '03 (Football) is Gannon's all-time leader in rushing yards (3,334) and 100-yard rushing games (15). The talented tailback graduated as the program's all-time leader in all-purpose yards (3,539) and scoring (126). He has since fallen to third and 13th. Pierce was named to the Football Gazette Non-Scholarship All-America honorable-mention team as a sophomore. His career resume includes 21 touchdowns.
The Amherst, N.Y., native set the school's single-season rushing record at the time with 1,100 yards in 1998. Pierce owned the school record for 100-yard games in a season upon graduation with eight in 1998. He still owns two of the school's top seven single-season rushing marks as his 1,010 yards in 1997 rank seventh. Pierce's 233-yard performance against Thiel in 1997 is the fourth-highest single-game total in school history. He also ranks seventh all-time at Gannon in career total offense (3,334). Pierce's 1,170 all-purpose yards in 1998 remained a school single-season record until 2012.
