Marco Koolman '91, '01M (Men's Soccer)
is a strong piece of the Gannon men's soccer tradition as both a student-athlete and a head coach. A four-year letterwinner from 1987-90, Koolman ranks second all-time at Gannon in assists (44) and 13th in points (76). He sits behind only Gannon Hall of Famer Rob van Rheenen in career assists. Koolman earned all-region and all-america honors in 1988 after dishing out a school-record 18 assists.

Koolman later came back to Gannon as a head coach and led the Golden Knights through one of the most successful periods in school history. The squad averaged 12.3 victories per year and reach double digits in wins during all six seasons with him at the helm. Koolman ranks second all-time in winning percentage (.706) and third in victories (74). His 1993 team opened the season with 14 consecutive victories and was ranked No. 1 in the country for five straight weeks. Koolman was later named 1993 NCAA Division II Coach of the Year after leading the Golden Knights to the NCAA Division II Final Four. It represented the program's third national semifinal appearance. He was later named GLIAC Coach of the Year in 1995.
