Hall of Fame
The 1989 Men's Soccer Team is the ninth Gannon team inducted into the Hall of Fame, but it's the first men's soccer squad to receive the honor. The 1989 team finished 18-3-1, out-scoring its opponents 88-21 while recording the second-highest single-season victory total in school history. The Golden Knights advanced to the NCAA Division II Final Four with back-to-back NCAA Tournament home wins against Oakland (2-1 in overtime) and East Stroudsburg (1-0). The national semifinalist team finished third in the country according to the final National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) national poll.
The memorable squad was coached by Gannon Hall of Famer Rob Russo who was assisted by another Gannon Hall of Famer in Gerry Vandemerwe '88, '01M. Team members included Gannon Hall of Famer Troy Bingham '92, Pete Campbell '92, Jim Diana '91, Dave Frew '91, Mike Heeneman '91, Kevin John, Gary Kagiavas '91, Chris Kehoe '92, Gannon Hall of Famer Marco Koolman '91, '01M, Kevin Kozlowski '02, Frank Lauciello, Joe Mancuso '93, Steve Parks '90, '92M, Jonathan Reinhard '92, Mike Skonieczka '92, Gannon Hall of Famer Gary Smallshaw '92, Sean Studders, Dave Talevski '92, John Trechsel '91, Gannon Hall of Famer Terry Waldorf '91 and Tim Wilcox '93. Mitch Christensen '91M served as the team's head athletic trainer.
