Daly was one of the first players recruited by John "Denny" Bayer when he became the men's basketball coach in 1966 and he immediately stepped into the starting lineup. The native of New York City and Xavier High School was the fourth-leading scorer during his first year and had an outstanding sophomore season, trailing only All-American Glen Summors with 419 points. Daly was a constant scoring threat with both his deadly long jumper and his ability to take the ball to the hoop. When his Gannon career ended after three years, Larry was the sixth-leading scorer in the school's history and the career leader among three-year players with 1,050 points, good for a 12.5 average.
