Darryl Freeman '91 (Men's Basketball) was one of two men's basketball student-athletes to be inducted into the Gannon Athletics Hall of Fame in 2017. The prolific scorer produced a 17.9 scoring average with 1,112 career points in only two seasons at Gannon after transferring from Daytona Beach (Fla.) Community College. A two-time All-Mideast Collegiate Conference (MECC) first-team selection, he was also named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-East Region and All-Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) South Region first teams.

The Trotwood, Ohio, native ranks 21st all-time at Gannon in career points, but was 14th upon graduation. Freeman ranks fifth all-time in scoring average. His 604 points and 141 free throws in 1989-90 rank fifth and seventh all-time at Gannon. Both marks were third-best at the time. Freeman's 230 field goals that same year rank sixth all-time at Gannon. He was the leading scorer for a 1989-90 team that finished 24-8 overall and won the NCAA Division II East Regional in front of sold-out crowds at the Hammermill Center en route to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight in Springfield, Massachusetts. Freeman was at his best during the postseason where he was named Most Valuable Player of the MECC Tournament and Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Division II East Regional.
