Pete Karuba '51
(Football) was one of Gannon's best football players during the legendary years of 1949 and 1950, before the program was discontinued until 1989. In addition to playing offensive and defensive tackle, Karuba also handled the placekicking duties. He was named to the All-East and All-Pennsylvania first teams as a senior. Both honors represented awards that considered all teams at every level of the NCAA at the time. He represented Gannon on all-star teams that included players from Penn State, the University of Pittsburgh and all programs that are now considered Division I.

The Erie, Pa., native originally played at Duquesne before transferring to Gannon. Karuba played for the only undefeated team in school history when the 1949 squad went 8-0. He helped Gannon post a 14-2 record during his two seasons in 1949 and 1950. Karuba had strong football genes in his blood line as the uncle of National Football League (NFL) Hall of Famer Fred Biletnikoff.
