ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon swimming and diving team defeated Allegheny at the Carneval Athletic Pavilion Friday night. The men won 119-115 and the women took a 150-91 decision from the Gators.
The men's 200 yard freestyle relay team won the final race of the night to give the Knights a close victory. David Landry (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon Area), Jason Jamieson (Cape Town, South Africa/Rondebosch), Greg Nelson (Homewood, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor), and John Krakowski (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) combined to win the race, while Ethan Chase (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep), Kyle Lazenby (Erie, Pa./McDowell), Josh Marzilli (Riverview, Fla./East Bay), and Phil Myrick (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) teamed up to finish second and secure a GU team victory. The winning team swam in 1:28.22 seconds.
Krakowski won the 50 yard freestyle, setting a pool record in the process. He swam the event in 21.37 seconds. Marzilli touched the wall first in the 500 and 1000 free, and Nelson took first in the 200 free.
On the women's side, the 200 freestyle relay team set a pool record, swimming a 1:39.24. Sarah Anderson (Erie, Pa./McDowell), Ellie Hess (Lower Burrell, Pa./Burrell), Rachel Rzymek (Erie, Pa./McDowell), and Kaitlyn Bosy (Courtice, Ontario/Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary) teamed up for the win.
Colleen Harriger (Erie, Pa./McDowell) won gold in the 200 yard individual medley, the 200 medley relay team won, and Ashlee Calandra (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier) took first in the 1000 freestyle. Other winners included Bosy in the 200 freestyle, Jackie Rzymek (Erie, Pa./McDowell) in the 200 yard butterfly, Sarah Lawton (Franklin, Pa./Franklin) in the 200 backstroke, and Sam Bluhm (Alliance, Ohio/Alliance) in the 500 freestyle.
Diana Rocco (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) won the one-meter dive and Megan Beresford (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) won the three-meter event.
