THE KNIGHT CAP
•A New Record: The meet started off with a bang. In the 200 medley relay, the team of Marcos Rodriguez (Madrid, Spain/Santa María del Pilar), Malachi Boyle (Knoxville, Tenn./Home Life Academy), Will Retsch (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) and Kuba Loboda (Lublin, Poland) broke a school record with a time of 1:29.55, a mark previously set in the 2023-24 season. GU would take first for the second win of the championships. Retsch and Boyle, interestingly enough, were part of the record setting team two years ago. The women were also strong in the 200 medley relay, taking 6th.
• Backing it Up: The women were strong in the 100 backstroke. Mariia Melnyk (Kyiv, Ukraine/Education Center Optima) recorded a top six time but ultimately finished ninth, a sub 48 second swim for the Golden Knights. Juliana Romero (Bogotá, Columbia/Colegio pureza de Maria) was in the top 16, while Libby Kibler (Attica, N.Y./Attica Senior) dropped nearly a second of her personal best time. On the men's side, Marcos Rodriguez (Madrid, Spain/Santa María del Pilar) claimed fourth.
• Emily Showcases: Emily Hedges (Peachtree Corners, Ga./St Pius X Catholic) was just one spot shy of an all-PSAC performance, still clocking a strong 2:07.88 in the 200 butterfly. The junior led all Golden Knights in that race.
• Team Success: The men's squad remains comfortably in second with 405 points. Meanwhile, for a second straight day, the women moved up another spot, sitting in seventh with one day to go.
