GANNON RESULTS

Duals Open EVENT NOTES
  • The Golden Knights were forced to forfeit both 125 and 149 in all three of their duals, putting themselves in a 12-point hole from the start. In contested bouts, Gannon went 15-9, with seven of those nine defeats coming to nationally ranked individuals.
  • Despite the forfeits, Gannon was within a point of Upper Iowa after Yates' tech fall, but the Peacocks won the last three bouts with their three ranked closers.
  • Hertel put a spark into the Knights with a sudden-victory win over No. 8 Eric Bartos against Mercyhurst at 133, and Young, Fisler and Wiliamson followed with wins to close it to a 15-13 lead for the Lakers after 174.
  • Bellarmine won the first four weights, but Gannon charged back with six straight. Leise and Ramage picked up huge falls to take it into heavyweight with the match on the line, and Hutchison responded with a late escape and takedown to come back for a 4-3 win and complete the Golden Knight comeback for a 24-22 victory.
  • At the NUWAY Open, Connor Day (Elma, N.Y./Iroquois Central) continued his strong wrestling of late, pinning his way through five opponents on the way to the 174-pound title. Three of his pins, including the semis and final, were in the first period.
UP NEXT
  • Gannon returns home next weekend, welcoming Mercyhurst North East for a B team dual, followed by a PSAC dual against Seton Hill on January 18 at the Hammermill Center.
