Four Pins Lead Gannon Wrestling Team Past Anderson 40-8 at NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional Duals

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – The Gannon wrestling team opened action at the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional Duals with a 40-8 win over Anderson University Friday night.

The Golden Knights won eight of 10 bouts over the Trojans, earning bonus points in six of those. Gannon tallied four pins and one major decision during the win.

Matt Turek (Painesville, Ohio / Madison) and Adam Weinell (Blairsville, Pa. / Blairsville) opened the match with pins at 125 and 133 respectively. Turek pinned Cory Monteforte in 4:13 while Weienll took care of Keenan Simmons in 3:51 to five Gannon a 12-0 lead.

Anderson picked up a 3-0 decision at 141 pounds before Gannon rolled off six straight wins. Ethan Swope (Luthersburg, Pa. / DuBois Area) picked up a 6-4 win over Dan Telhada at 149 pounds before Sean Floor (Westbrookville, N.Y. / Port Jervis) added a 2-1 decision at 157 pounds.

Adam Greenman (Port Allegany, Pa. / Port Allegany) then added Gannon's third pin of the night in the 165-pound bout. He defeated Dalton Harper 54 seconds into the second period.

Gannon picked up six more points with a forfeit at 174 pounds. Zack Zelcs (Ridgway, Pa. / Ridgway) added another six team points with the Golden Knights' fourth pin of the night. At 184 pounds, he pinned Bryan Glace in 3:38.

Christopher Boyd (Chase City, Va. / Randolph Henry) added the final win of the night for Gannon with a 16-3 major decision in the 197-pound bout. Anderson earned a 16-1 tech fall at heavyweight to account for the 40-8 final

Gannon will continue action at the 2012 NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional Duals tomorrow with bouts against East Stroudsburg and Ohio Valley.
