Gannon University Athletics

Swope returns as Gannon’s starter in the 149-pound division … is one of three Golden Knights returning to the squad with experience at the NCAA Division II National Championship.  
 
2010-11: Named to the Academic All-America first team … was a PSAC Scholar-Athlete … received the Division II Athletics Directors Association (DII ADA) Academic Achievement Award … posted a 26-13 overall record with a 9-2 mark in dual meets … finished second on the team in overall wins (26), third in major decisions (3) and fourth in dual wins (9) … ranked 25th on Gannon’s single-season wins list (26) … opened the season with a 3-1 record with one pin at the Buffalo Open … finished third at the National Catholic Invitational with a 3-1 record … took second place at the PSAC Championship with wins over NCAA Division I opponents from Bloomsburg and Clarion … earned four straight dual wins from January 8-27 … added a major decision during Gannon’s 27-15 dual win over Mercyhurst … won three straight matches including one pin at the NCAA Division II Super Regional One … was one of four Golden Knights to qualify for nationals after finishing second at regionals … was one win shy of earning all-america status at the NCAA Division II National Championship.

2009-10: Wrestled at 141 and 149, finishing 5-5 while competing unattached … earned a pair of wins at the Ashland Invitational … finished second at the Jamestown Open with a 3-1 record … earned a pin in 37 seconds against a Niagara Community College wrestler.

2008-09: Recorded a 18-13 overall record and 7-4 dual mark … posted the fifth-most overall victories and seventh-most dual wins on the team … had four pins, the third-highest total on the team … opened the season with a 3-2 record at the Buffalo Open … went 3-1 at the National Catholic Invitational, placing second…compiled a 4-2 record at the Ashland Open … recorded a pin during a dual competition versus Waynesburg … posted decisions against Ashland and Seton Hill … recorded technical falls against Kutztown and Shippensburg.

2007-08: Was one of two Golden Knights to split time at 133 … posted a 14-8 record with one pin as a true freshman … went 1-2 at the University of Buffalo Open, his first career collegiate event … captured the 133-pound title at the Jamestown Jayhawk Invitational, winning all three matches … finished second at the Ashland Open (3-1), fourth at the National Catholic Invitational (3-2), and fifth at the Ashland Invitational (2-2) … won two of three dual matches, recording a pin in his victory against NCAA Division I Wagner.

High School: Wrestled for head coach Denny Nosker at DuBois Area (Pa.) High School … was a two-time District 9 champion and two-time PIAA state qualifier … recorded a second-place and third-place finish at regionals … named team captain as a senior … was a member of the National Honor Society … listed in “Who’s Who Among American High School Student-Athletes” … named to the Wrestling Coaches Association All-Academic team.

Personal: Environmental Engineering major … has two sisters … son of Lou Ann and Gary.
