Gannon won seven of the ten matches to hand No. 19 Lake Erie the loss. Nick Young (Batavia, N.Y./Alexander) was the only Golden Knight to win by bonus points with a fall at 149 lbs.
 
  
ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon men's wrestling team will compete in the Storm Quad Meet on Saturday, December 2. Lake Erie will host the four-team event at the Jerome T. Osborne Center.

After wrestling in three open tournaments the Golden Knights will take to the mat for the first time in dual competition under first-year head coach Tom Boyd. The Golden Knights wrestle Fairmont State (4-2) at 11:00 a.m. followed by a 12:30 p.m. match against host Lake Erie (0-0). The Storm comes in ranked 12th in The Open Mat Division II dual meet rankings with five nationally ranked wrestlers.

Fairmont State comes in with a 4-2 record, including a 33-15 win over Seton Hill and a 46-3 loss to Pitt-Johnstown on November 19.

The Lake Erie match offers several intriguing matchups. Most notable are at 149 and 174 lbs. where each team is expected to send out a nationally-ranked wrestler. At 174 lbs., Lake Erie's James Penfold is ranked number one in the country. Redshirt sophomore Cole Casilio (Wilcox, Pa./Johnsonburg Area) will look to post the upset and is ranked seventh in Division II. Casilio has an 8-3 record.

Tenth-ranked Jimmy Ryan (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) (5-1) will face Christian Small of Lake Erie at 149 lbs. Small is ranked second and owns a win by fall over Ryan in the Findlay Open.
Gannon has on other wrestler ranked in The Open Mat rankings. Freshman Jerry Echevarria (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach) is 8-1 at 133 lbs. and ranked 20th.   

Gannon will send out either Caleb Chaves (Odenton, Md./Arundel) (5-4) or Joel Huck (Waterford, Pa./Fort LeBoeuf) (7-4) at 141 lbs. They will face a pair of nationally-ranked foes with Lake Erie's Corey Gamet ranked ninth and Colton Stoneking of Fairmont State 17th.

The Golden Knights will send 26 wrestlers back to Lake Erie on Sunday to compete in the Storm Open.
