KEY SEQUENCE
  • Austin Hertel (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton) bounced back late to force overtime at 133, scoring five straight points to draw even, then notched the winning takedown in sudden victory. That was the first of what became eight straight wins for the Golden Knights as they blew things open against the Storm.

HOW IT HAPPENED

125
Jacob Johnson gave the hosts their only lead of the night, starting things off with a forfeit at 125.

133
A rough second period saw Lake Erie's Jacob Donahue build a 5-1 lead, but Hertel slipped around for a reverse late in the period to draw closer. Hertel kept pushing, earning a third stall call in the third period to go up 6-5, but a riding time point allowed Donahue to tie it up and send it to overtime, where Hertel ended it with a takedown.

141
Andrew Lieb notched the first takedown for the Storm, but Nick Young (Batavia, N.Y./Alexander) reversed to even it, then earned another reversal in the second to go up 4-3 and build riding time. A wild third period saw Young earn a takedown, then the duo trade three reversals, with Lieb getting the last one to tie it at 8-8. Young slipped out for an escape and picked up a takedown to get some space on his way to a 12-8 decision.

149
With the dual tied 6-6, Dom Means (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) got to work quick at 149, getting a takedown and four back points in the first period. Another takedown and rideout after choosing neutral to start the second added to the lead, and Means added another reversal before allowing a late escape in the third to seal an 11-1 major.

157
Evan Fisler (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township) was dominant on top throughout at 157, getting the opening takedown in the first period, then reversing for a 4-1 lead early in the second. Another takedown in the middle period added to the lead, and Lake Erie's Jacob Potok only managed a third escape before Fisler wrapped up his 7-3 decision.

165
Alex Farenchak (Painesville, Ohio/Riverside) and LEC's James Penfold traded takedowns and escapes in the opening period to finish the first three minutes 3-3. Penfold went ahead with a second-period escape, but after Penfold chose neutral to start the third, Farenchak got the go-ahead takedown. Penfold escaped once again to tie it, but Farenchak grabbed the winning takedown and added a riding time point to earn an 8-5 win.

174
Luigi Yates (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) picked up the first takedown in the first period, then got to work quickly to build a lead in the second, turning John Penfold twice for six points. Penfold picked top to go into the third, but Yates quickly escaped and notched another takedown on his way to an impressive 13-0 major.

184
Joel Leise (Transfer, Pa./Reynolds) would be the only wrestler on either side to end a match early, and the bout would not even get out of the first period. A quick takedown led to Leise twice turning Honour Kline for four points. After Kline escaped, Leise again took him down, and turned him once more to finish a 16-1 tech fall as the horn sounded.

197
Jud Ramage (Kipling, Ohio/Meadowbrook) capped the Golden Knights' run of wins, getting a forfeit at 197.

285
A scoreless first period led to Lake Erie's Devin Uzelac getting the opening point with an escape in the second. Brad Crislip (Ravenna, Ohio/Ravenna) got out to tie it in the third, but he gave up a second stall call to give Uzelac a point, and Uzelac got a takedown to seal a 4-1 win.
