ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon men's wrestling team wraps up a busy week of wrestling this week, competing in the Shippensburg Duals on Saturday, January 29. There will be four sessions, with wrestling taking place on three mats. The Golden Knights will wrestle three dual matches, beginning with a 10:00 a.m. matchup with American International. That's followed by a PSAC dual vs. Shippensburg at 12:00 noon before wrapping up dual competition with a dual against Belmont Abbey. Gannon was originally scheduled to face Lander in a fourth match. With Lander making the decision not to attend, the 4:00 p.m. is reserved for exhibition matches.

Gannon enters the Shippensburg Duals riding a five-match winning streak after handing Seton Hill a 36-6 defeat on Wednesday. That boosted the Golden Knights to 5-2 overall, with the two losses to Division I Edinboro and Buffalo, along with a perfect 4-0 record in PSAC action.

The week began with a 52-0 win over East Stroudsburg last Sunday, and on Thursday night Gannon's "B" team defeated Lake Erie 23-18. Gannon will send 11 wrestlers, along with three unattached competitors, to the Jamestown Community College Open on Sunday.

Seton Hill captured two of the opening three bouts on Wednesday, but after that it was all Gannon. The Golden Knights won eight matches in all, including running off wins in the final seven. Four of those produced bonus points, including back-to-back pins to conclude the match.

Gannon is ranked sixth in the latest NWCA Division II Top 25. Long-time head coach Don Henry's team has a lineup featuring seven nationally-ranked wrestlers, according to either the NWCA or InterMat. Henry is in his 38th year in charge of the Golden Knight grapplers.

Alex Farenchak (Painesville, Ohio/Riverside) is ranked number one at 165 lbs. in both polls. The redshirt sophomore returned to the mat for the first time in over a month against Millersville recently. He won by fall at Mercyhurst and is now 10-2, with both losses to Division I wrestlers. Farenchak finished as the national runner-up at 165 lbs. last year.

Dom Means (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) posted a first place showing at the Midwest Classic and has climbed to second in both polls at 149 lbs. The redshirt junior missed the early portion of the season and has a perfect 10-0 record.

Joel Leise (Transfer, Pa./Reynolds), another redshirt junior, is ranked third in the NWCA rankings while standing 11th according to InterMat. He owns a dominant 8-0 record, with six straight wins via fall. At 157 lbs., junior Nick Young (Batavia, N.Y./Alexander) owns a 14-7 record and is ranked sixth by InterMat and tenth by the NWCA. Young earned All-American honors last year with a sixth place finish.

Joey Petrella (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Bishop Hartley), a freshman, has a 16-4 record and stands tenth at 174 lbs. by the NWCA and 12th by InterMat. Freddie Nixon (Buffalo, N.Y./St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute), who is 14-1 with that lone loss to Buffalo's heavyweight, is ranked ninth at heavyweight by InterMat and 12th by the NWCA. Two of his last three wins have been falls.

Senior Jacob Dunlop (Rostraver Township, Pa./Belle Vernon) shows up in the InterMat rankings. Dunlop competes at 125 lbs. and is ranked 11th with a 15-2 record. He returned to the lineup at Mercyhurst and started the match with a major decision victory. Dunlop was an All-American at 133 lbs. last year after finishing eighth at Nationals.
