ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon women's water polo team saw their win streak snapped at seven when they ran into #12 Indiana Friday evening at the Carneval Athletic Pavilion. The Hoosiers earned the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) win by a 15-4 final
Indiana jumped on Gannon 6-0 in the first quarter with senior Nicole Redder tallying three of the scores. Indiana shut-out the Lady Knights again in the second quarter to hold an 11-0 lead at the half.
Colleen Harriger (Erie, Pa. / McDowell) got Gannon on the scoreboard with a goal at the 3:34 mark of the third quarter. She added two more scores in the fourth quarter while Molly Andrews (Tustin, Calif. / Tustin) added the Lady Knights fourth goal.
Gannon turned the ball over 16 times on the night and missed a total of 21 shots. The Lady Knights grabbed eight steals and were 1-for-4 in sprint-offs.
Janelle Bartman (Darien, Ill. / Adlai E. Stevenson) had three saves in goal and also recorded one steal. Kelly Steininger (Vernon Hills, Ill. / Vernon Hills) accounted for Gannon's one sprint-off and also had three steals in the match.
The Lady Knights hold an 8-14 record overall this season and fall to 0-4 in conference action. Indiana improves to 16-10 overall and 1-1 in CWPA matches.
Gannon returns to the pool on Friday, April 15 to face local rival Mercyhurst at 7:30 p.m. at the Carneval Athletic Pavilion.
