Gannon Swimming and Diving Teams Sweep Fredonia State on Senior Night

Freshman Adam Chrzanowski was one of two triple-winners during Friday's 153-84 victory against Fredonia State.

ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon swimming and diving teams won 19 of 26 events and swept a dual meet from Fredonia State on Senior Night Friday evening at the Carneval Athletic Pavilion. The women's squad earned a 139-100 victory while the men's team cruised to a 153-84 win.

Adam Chrzanowski (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) and Nick Wolhaupter (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) highlighted the men's rout as triple-winners. Chrzanowski captured gold medals in the 100-yard freestyle (48.90) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:45.93). Both marks were Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying times. The freshman added a third title as part of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team (1:28.21).

Wolhaupter secured an individual title in the 200-yard butterfly with a PSAC time of two minutes and 1.15 seconds. The freshman was also part of winning relay teams in the 200-yard medley (1:38.13) and the 200-yard freestyle.

Ethan Chase (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) and Jared Griffard (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho/Coeur d'Alene) were double-winners, capturing both an individual and relay title. Chase won the 50-yard freestyle in 22.39 seconds and swam with the winning 200-yard medley relay team. The junior also posted a PSAC-qualifying time in the 200-yard butterfly (2:01.95) while winning the silver medal, less than a second behind Wolhaupter.

Griffard was the first to touch the wall in the 200-yard breaststroke with a conference-qualifying time of two minutes and 12.93 seconds. He opened the night on the winning 200-yard medley relay team.

Other winners on the men's side included Alex Dovale (Cape Town, South Africa/South African College) in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:35.74) and Terrance Coughran (Atwater, Calif./Atwater) in the 500-yard freestyle (5:03.33).

Kyle Lazenby (Erie, Pa./McDowell) helped Griffard, Chase and Wolhaupter win the 200-medley relay. Phil Myrick (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) and Mike Kneidinger (Erie, Pa./McDowell) joined Chrzanowski and Wolhaupter on the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team. James Lilly (Bowie, Md./Bowie) secured the final PSAC-qualifying time (2:14.48) with a second-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke.

Gannon had four double-winners on the women's side. Kaitlyn Bosy (Courtice, Ontario/Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary) and Michelle Fischl (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Salem) produced both of their victories during individual races.

Bosy captured gold in the 50-yard freestyle (24.76) and the 100-yard freestyle (54.52). Both marks met conference standards. Fischl turned the trick in the 200-yard IM (2:16.52) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:12.77).

Katie Vincent (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) and Katie Joseph (McDonald, Ohio/McDonald) split a pair of titles between the individual and relay events. Vincent was declared the champion in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:29.41) while Joseph was the best in the 200-yard freestyle (2:00.52). Both gold medals came with PSAC-qualifying times.

Vincent and Joseph joined Rachel King (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena) and Jacqueline Rzymek (Erie, Pa./McDowell) to earn their relay title in the 200-yard medley. The foursome combined to post a time of one minute and 52.52 seconds. The Lady Knights swam exhibitions during the 200-yard freestyle relay in the final event.

Other champions on the women's side included Charlene Lichota (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier) in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:11.60), Steph Graham (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) in the 200-yard butterfly (PSAC time, 2:16.84) and Christina Ruggiero (Williamsville, N.Y./Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart) in the 500-yard freestyle (5:28.57). Amanda Knapp (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg) picked up a final conference-qualifying time (2:18.74) with a second-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly.

The Gannon men's swimming and diving team improved to 5-4 in dual meets with its second consecutive victory. The women's squad moved to 8-3 with its sixth victory in the last seven dual meets. Both programs will now have 34 days off, before returning to action Saturday, January 14 at NCAA Division I Canisius. The dual meet is scheduled for 1 p.m.
