Stoczynski is expected to become a three-year starter this season at guard. The Erie, Pa., native returned home prior to the 2005-06 season after playing one season at UMass.-Lowell, an NCAA Division II school in the Northeast-10 Conference. Following a redshirt season, he immediately led the team in scoring (15.2) in 2006-07.
Stoczynski brings a high energy and strong work ethic to the program. He is considered one of the squad’s toughest and most competitive players. The senior enters the season eighth all-time at Gannon in three-point field goals attempted (290) and three-point field goals made (100).
The 6’7” guard is the third member of the Stoczynski family to play basketball at Gannon. His father, Neal (1973-76), ranks ninth all-time at Gannon in career assists (321) and 34th in scoring (881). His uncle, Dave (1971-73), resides in 38th place on Gannon’s all-time scoring chart with 853 points.
Junior Season: Was one of three Golden Knights to start every game ... performed at a high level in the classroom, being named to the NABC Honors Court reserved for juniors and seniors with at least a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average ... landed a spot on the GLIAC All-Academic team ... reached double digits in scoring 11 times, including five times in the last eight games ... scored 15 points against Findlay in the NCAA Tournament second round ... posted a season-high 20 points at Tiffin ... pulled down a season-high 10 rebounds against Edinboro.
Sophomore Season: Started every game ... was Gannon’s leading scorer with 15.2 points per game ... named to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) honorable-mention team ... earned GLIAC All-Academic honors ... ranked fourth among GLIAC players in defensive rebounds (4.77), seventh in rebounds (6.6), seventh in minutes played (34.12), ninth in steals (1.69), ninth in three-pointers (2.19), 10th in points (15.2), 14th in assists (2.92), and 14th in blocked shots (0.62) ... shot 90.9 percent (10-11) from the floor against Penn State McKeesport, the 11th-highest single-game percentage in NCAA Division II during the 2006-07 season ... named to the ECAC weekly honor roll after averaging 20 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and three steals during two games in the Porreco Cup ... selected to the Gary Miller Classic and Porreco Cup All-Tournament teams ... opened the season with 39 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists during two games at the Gary Miller Classic ... torched the nets for a season-high 27 points during a victory over Pitt-Johnstown in the Gary Miller Classic championship game ... reached double digits in scoring during 21 of 26 games ... recorded three double-doubles, including back-to-back performances against Northern Michigan and Hillsdale ... produced 15 points and 13 rebounds in both games ... reached the 20-point plateau six times ... hauled down at least three rebounds per game.
2005-06 Season: Redshirted.
At UMass.-Lowell: Averaged 3.2 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 12.4 minutes during nine games as a freshman in 2004-05 ... opened his collegiate career with nine points in 16 minutes at Adelphi ... added four points and three rebounds during his first career start at Franklin Pierce.
High School: Played for head coach Tom Hansen at McDowell High School ... was a three-year standout from 2001-04 ... averaged 20.9 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.4 steals, two assists, and 1.5 blocks as a senior ... nailed 66 three-pointers ... named 2003-04 Metro League Player of the Year ... landed a spot on the PIAA All-State Quad-A second team ... selected to the All-Metro first team ... named MVP at the “Best of the Best” Tournament ... led McDowell to a 26-2 record and both the Metro League and District 10 Championships as a senior.
