OBERLIN, OH – Gannon earned a dual meet split on Saturday, defeating Malone 221-34, while falling to Oberlin, 148-132.
The Golden Knights started off with a win in the 1650 yard freestyle. Freshman
Ethan Weigel (Cowansville, Pa./Armstrong) swept past the rest of the field with a time of 17:40:62. In the next event,
Ben Williams (Findlay, Ohio/Findlay) was victorious in the 200 yard freestyle (1:44:67).
Gannon took the top three spots of the podium in the 100 yard breaststroke.
Aidar Sataev (Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan/Forest Hill) led the way as the only competitor to clock in at under a minute (59.83). The Golden Knights also went 1-2-3 in the 50 yard freestyle, when
Kuba Loboda (Lublin, Poland) (21.35) raced his way to the top.
Loboda wasn't done there, however. By less than three tenths of a second, he edged out teammate Connor Herbert (52.83) by earning a 52.54 mark.
Will Retsch (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) completed the top spot finishes for GU, winning the 200 IM with a 1:58:75 mark.
The Golden Knights will return home to the Carneval Athletic Pavilion Pool for Senior Night on Friday, January 24th, to host their rival, Edinboro. The meet will begin at 6:00 PM.
