Men’s Swimming breaks three pool records in home win over IUP

Golden Knights earned 10 first place finishes en route to dual meet win

The Gannon men's swimming team earned its first dual win of the season after a dominating 175-87 win over IUP on Saturday afternoon inside Carneval Athletic Pavilion.

The Golden Knights are now 1-2 in dual meets, while IUP also moves to 1-2 in the year.

Head Coach Milan Medo's team finished with 10 first-place finishes, 32 PSAC qualifying times and lastly, broke three pool records.

200 Medley Relay Pool Record
  • The 17-year-old record was set by Gannon during the 2008-09 campaign (1:33.70).
  • The Gannon foursome of Nikita Pau Poparcea Greiter (Sant Carles de la Rapita, Spain), Aidar Sataev (Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan/Forest Hill), Kuba Loboda (Lublin, Poland), and Bryce Burét opened the meet with a first-place finish and new pool record time of 1:32.70.
  • However, in the same race, the team of Bengimin Ambrosiani (Seward, Alaska/Seward), Jordan Denyer (Port Elizabeth, South Africa/Grey), Will Retsch (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton), and Nickolas Ambrosiani (Seward, Alaska/Seward) finished second and recorded a time of 1:33.68.
100 Fly Pool Record
  • The 5-year-old record was set by Gannon's Brent Benedict during the 2019-20 campaign (49.56).
  • Kuba Loboda (Lublin, Poland) earned a first-place, pool record time of 48.92 in the event.
400 Freestyle Relay Pool Record
  • 5-year-old record was set by Gannon during the 2019-20 campaign (3:08.22).
  • The Gannon foursome of Bryce Burét, Seth Butler (Maineville, Ohio/Little Miami), Nikita Pau Poparcea Greiter (Sant Carles de la Rapita, Spain), and Kuba Loboda (Lublin, Poland) won the event in a pool record time of 3:07.70.

The Golden Knights are back in action when they travel and compete in the Malone Invitational on November 21-23. The three-day event will take place at Branin Natatorium in Canton, Ohio.
