Gannon has won the last seven matches against the Vulcans and 11 of the last 12 in a series that first began in 1989. That includes a 5-0 and 4-0 wins a year ago.

Cal held the Golden Knights without a goal for 30 minutes, but Gannon scored twice in a span of five minutes for a 2-0 halftime lead, then scored four more times in the second half. James Pool (Hastings, England/Claverham) led the way with a goal and two assists.

ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon men's soccer team has hit the stretch run for the 2024 regular season. The Golden Knights wrapped up the home portion of their season on Wednesday with a hard-earned 3-1 win over Slippery Rock and now play their final four games on the road.

The first takes place on Saturday, October 26 with a rematch against a California (Pa.) team the Golden Knights defeated 6-0 on October 16. The match gets underway at 1:00 p.m. with Gannon looking to extend a six-game winning streak.

The Golden Knights climbed one spot to 12th in the latest United Soccer Coaches Division II Top 25. The win over Slippery Rock boosted Gannon to 10-2-2 overall and 4-0-2 in the PSAC West. They have 14 points one point shy of Lock Haven in the Western Division standings. The two teams will meet on Saturday, November 2.

The 2024 Gannon edition has put up some impressive numbers while showcasing balanced scoring. The Golden Knights have outscored their opponents 49-11, shutting out seven teams. Slippery Rock's goal on Wednesday snapped a string of three straight shutouts.

Six players have scored at least five goals and eight have 10-or-more points. Sverre Orten (Orsta, Norway/Aalesund vgs) has six goals and nine assists for a team-high 21 points. A pair of freshmen – Per Kristian Lauvstad (Nesoya, Norway) and Alander Soares (Caxias do Sul, Brazil/Escola Estadual de Ensino Medio Santa Catarina) – are tied for the team lead with eight goals. Three Golden Knights – Herman Aanberg (Hamar, Norway/Wang Toppidrett Oslo) (10), Orten (9), and James Pool (Hastings, England/Claverham) (8) – rank among the national leaders in assists.

Gannon's defense has kept the pressure off goalkeeper Andre Moraes (Sao Bernardo do Campo, Brazil/Colegio Singular) for the most part, but the redshirt sophomore has been up to the challenge when need be. He has a 0.85 GAA with six shutouts.

Scouting California (Pa.): The Vulcans come in with a 3-6-4 overall record and are 0-4-2 in PSAC West action. They snapped a winless streak of five matches with a 1-0 win at Shippensburg prior to the Gannon match but have lost two straight after suffering a 1-0 loss to Seton Hill on Wednesday. California (Pa.) has scored just nine goals this season, but only allowed 18 goals, six of those to Gannon. Brady Olsen and Max Llado lead the Vulcans with two goals apiece.
