Orten Named D2CCA Men's Soccer Ron Lenz Player of the Year

Rekka joins Orten as All-American

ERIE, Pa. – While one of the most successful seasons in Gannon men's soccer history has come to a close the awards are still pouring in. And the latest is a big one for senior standout Sverre Orten (Orsta, Norway/Aalesund vgs). After previously being named the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) Atlantic Region Player of the Year today it was announced that Orten is the 2025 D2CCA Men's Soccer Ron Lenz Player of the Year.

The midfielder from Orsta, Norway was one of 13 players named to the D2CCA All-American first team. He was joined on the third team by teammate Enzo Rekka (Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina/Gymnasium of the Catholic School Centre "Sveti Franjo").

Orten is now a two-time D2CCA first team All-American, earning the award in 2024 as well, along with being named a first team United Soccer Coaches All-American a year ago. He is a four-time D2CCA Atlantic Region selection after earning first team honors the last three years and second team in 2022.

He previously repeated as the PSAC West Athlete of the Year and was voted a first team All-PSAC West honoree for the fourth time.

Gannon saw its season come to an end on a Saturday with a loss at Super Region 1 No. 1 seed Southern New Hampshire in the Elite Eight. It brought to an end one of the furthest journeys in the NCAA Tournament with Orten playing a major role. Gannon ended the year with a 15-3-4 record.

With Orten leading the way Gannon won its first-ever PSAC Championship then moved on into the NCAA Tournament as the sixth seed in Super Region 1. The Golden Knights upset No. 3 seed Bentley in the opening round by a 2-1 score with Orten providing the winning goal. They added a 2-1 upset of No. 2 seed Franklin Pierce in the next round, with Orten opening the scoring.

Orten put an exclamation point on a career that ranks him among the best to ever roam the pitch at Gannon. He not only led the team in goals with 17 but that total is the best in Division II. He added 12 assists, which is seventh nationally, for a total of 46 points. That figure leads Division II by nine points.

Orten has climbed Gannon's career record book through the year and now stands second in career assists (46) and seventh in career points (116).

While Orten's career comes to a close Rekka is one of an exciting group of freshmen for head coach Billy Colton. A forward from Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina, finished second on the team in scoring with 10 goals and 12 assists for 32 points. Like Orten he is tied for seventh in Division II in assists. He was the PSAC West Freshman of the Year and a first-team all-conference selection.

Rekka accounted for the game-winning goal in the 2-1 win at Franklin Pierce, skimming a long shot past the goalkeeper in the 78th minute to win the Sweet 16 match.
