Orten Named 2025 Academic All-America® Men’s Soccer Team member of the Year

Toyama, Hyde join Orten as Academic All-Americans®

AUSTIN, Texas – Gannon University men's soccer standout Sverre Orten (Orsta, Norway/Aalesund vgs) has captured another honor, this one for his skills on the pitch and in the classroom. Orten today was named the 2025 Division II Academic All-America® Men's Soccer Team Member of the Year as selected by the College Sports Communicators. CSC names one Team Member of the Year for NCAA Divisions I, II and III and NAIA as part of its Academic All-America® teams.

Orten is now a two-time CSC Academic All-American®, earning first team honors this year after a second team selection a year ago. He is one of three Golden Knights to earn 2025 Academic All-American® honors. Shota Toyama (Kanagawa, Japan/Tama) was voted to the second team and Rafa Hyde (São José dos Campos, Brazil/) was a third-team honoree.

A senior midfielder from Orsta, Norway, Orten has a 3.82 cumulative GPA as a Finance major. He was recently named the D2CCA Men's Soccer Ron Lenz Player of the Year, becoming a two-time D2CCA first team All-American. In addition he was the D2CCA Atlantic Region Player of the Year. Late last week he earned United Soccer Coaches All-American honors for the second time, earning first team honors in 2024 and third team this year. Orten was voted the PSAC West Athlete of the Year and was a four-time All-PSAC West first team selection. A year ago he was selected the United Soccer Coaches National Scholar Player of the Year.

With Orten leading the way Gannon finished the season with a 15-3-4 record, winning a first-ever PSAC Championship and upsetting two higher-seeded teams to reach the Elite Eight. Orten led Division II in goals with 17 and added 12 assists, which is seventh nationally, for a total of 46 points. That figure led Division II as well. He departs ranking second in career assists (46) and seventh in career points (116).

Toyama is an Accounting major who has maintained a 3.93 GPA. He enjoyed his finest season as a senior. He was accorded first team All-PSAC West and second team United Soccer Coaches All-Atlantic Region honors. The midfielder from Kanagawa, Japan ended the year with five goals and seven assists for 17 points while also playing a key role defensively from his midfield position.

Hyde is an Entrepreneurship & Finance with a 3.61 GPA. The junior forward from São José dos Campos, Brazil was also a first team All-PSAC West honoree and second team United Soccer Coaches All-Atlantic Region pick. He was Gannon's third-leading scorer with 10 goals and nine assists for 29 points. He was the 2023 PSAC West Freshman of the Year.
