No. 12 Golden Knights Host Slippery Rock in Search of Sixth Straight Win

Gannon took the lead in the all-time series after sweeping last year's two meetings by scores of 7-1 and 4-1. The Golden Knights are 10-0-2 in the last 12 meetings, with SRU last prevailing in 2015.

Gannon and Slippery Rock battled to a 1-1 tie at Slippery Rock in the first meeting of the season. Gannon took an early lead as Rafa Hyde (São José dos Campos, Brazil) scored at 5:47, assisted by James Pool (Hastings, England/Claverham). The Golden Knights were forced to play the final 61 minutes a man down due to e red card and it finally caught up to them early in the second half. SRU's Luke Gildea scored in the 56th minute to tie the score.

ERIE, Pa. – Gannon concludes the home portion of the 2024 regular season on Wednesday, October 23 with an important PSAC West match against Slippery Rock. The match gets underway at 6:00 p.m. at McConnell Family Stadium.
 
The Golden Knights have run off five straight wins to improve to 9-2-2 overall and 3-0-2 in the PSAC West. The winning streak has boosted Gannon to 12th in the latest United Soccer Coaches Division II Top 25.
 
Gannon has pulled to within a point of Lock Haven for the lead in the PSAC West standings. The Bald Eagles have 12 points, with Gannon showing 11. Slippery Rock is in third in the division with eight points.  SRU is also on a winning streak of its own with three straight victories. The match is the start of second half play in the division for Gannon.

Gannon has now appeared in the United Soccer Coaches Division II Top 25 on three occasions. The Golden Knights opened the year ranked seventh only to drop out following a loss to Saginaw Valley State. They reappeared in 13th place for a week only to suffer a loss to Adelphi. They climbed back into the rankings in 15th place three weeks ago and have since climbed to 12th in the latest poll.
  
DORNER NAMED PSAC WEST DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Gannon's Carl Dorner (Skødstrup, Sweden) was named the PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Week on Monday, marking the second straight week a Golden Knight defender captured the award. A native of Sweden, the freshmen defender played a major role as Gannon won twice during the week. The week began with a 6-0 win over California (Pa.), followed by a 5-0 shutout of Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday. Gannon has now shut out its last three opponents and has seven shutouts on the year. Gannon allowed just six shots to California (Pa.) and one to UPJ. Dorner also got into the scoring act against Cal. He scored his second career goal on his lone shot against the Vulcans.

Scouting Slippery Rock: Slippery Rock was picked to finish fourth in the PSAC West preseason poll after posting a 5-8-4 record a year ago. The Rock comes in at 5-3-3 and 2-1-2 in the PSAC West. They are riding a three-game winning streak after edging Seton Hill 4-3 on Saturday and are 3-1-2 in their last six contests. SRU trailed 3-2 with 13 minutes remaining but scored twice in the span of two minutes. Altor Jorde, this week's PSAC West Athlete of the Week, leads SRU with three goals and two assists for eight points. Arturo Pla Hernandis and Aaron Finney add three goals apiece. Adam Davies has played every minute in goal and has a 1.45 GAA. The senior began his career at Rutgers.

The Golden Knights enter the stretch run of the 2024 regular season with the final four games on the road. The four-game road swing gets underway at California (Pa.). The Golden Knights won the first meeting on Oct. 16 by a 6-0 score.
