The Gannon University men's swimming and diving team will kick off its 2024 schedule when the Golden Knights take on PSAC opponent Edinboro at McComb Fieldhouse on Saturday, Jan. 13, at 1:00 p.m.

Led by
Joey Decheck's (Plum, Pa./Plum) wins in the 50-yard freestyle (21.80 seconds) and 100-yard freestyle (48.49), the Golden Knights registered six first-place finishes despite falling to IUP, 152-141, on Dec. 3 inside Pidgeon Natatorium.
Hiyan Kubagawa (Sao Paulo, Brazil) (200 butterfly, 1:59.25),
Aidar Sataev (Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan/Forest Hill) (200 breaststroke, 2:09.93), and
Pedro Aragon (Guatemala City/Colegio Valle Verde) (100 butterfly, 53.45) all finished first in their respective races, while
Kollin Schwab (Erie, Pa./McDowell) (1-meter, 242.55) added a diving win to contribute to the Golden Knight effort.

The Golden Knights dominated the Fighting Scots, winning every race in the 12-event dual, while also setting a trio of program records. Those marks came in the 1,650 freestyle (
Ryan Barclay (Knoxville, Tenn./Bearden), 16:37.54), 200 freestyle relay (
Stephen McCallum (Cape Town, South Africa/Wynberg Boys'),
Andrew Beyer (Warren, Pa./Warren Area),
Justin Decheck (Plum, Pa./Plum), and
Joey Decheck (Plum, Pa./Plum), 1:24.79), and 400 medley relay (
Justin Decheck (Plum, Pa./Plum),
Malachi Boyle (Knoxville, Tenn./Home Life Academy),
David Gallion (Arlington, Va./Homeschooled), McCallum, 3:28.34).
Men's Swimming and Diving enjoying a strong season
The Golden Knights have posted three NCAA B-cut times.
Malachi Boyle (Knoxville, Tenn./Home Life Academy) has a B-cut time in the 200 breaststroke (1:59.75) and the 500 freestyle (4:32.66).
Aidar Sataev's (Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan/Forest Hill) time of 55.36 in the 100 breaststroke meets the standard for the NCAA B-cut. All three occurred while Gannon was competing in the Magnus Cup at Cleveland State.
In addition, the Golden Knights have broken several school records. Sataev broke his own record from the Magnus Cup in 2022 in the 100 breaststroke. His time of 55.36 is ranked 34th in Division II.
Gannon's 200 breaststroke record fell twice at the Magnus Cup. In the preliminary session, Sataev set a school mark of 2:01.21, good for 29th in Division II. He broke Boyle's record from 2022 (2:01.62). Later that night in the finals, Boyle reclaimed his school record with a time of 1:59.75. The NCAA B-cut time is currently ranked 15th in Division II.
In addition, the 200-yard medley relay team of
Justin Decheck (Plum, Pa./Plum), Boyle,
Will Retsch, and
Joey Decheck (Plum, Pa./Plum) came in third with a school-record time of 1:29.64 at the Magnus Cup. The previous record was 1:30.78, set in the 2023 PSAC Championships.
The PSAC Swimming and Diving Championships are slated for Feb. 14-17, at the Keystone Aquatic Center in Carlisle, Pa., with 18 members of the Golden Knight team posting PSAC qualifying times thus far.

The men's swimming and diving team will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 20, when the Golden Knights travel to Carlisle to compete in the Keystone Invitational.
