WEST CHESTER, Pa. – All five golfers in the Gannon University men's lineup shot 76 or better on Monday as the Golden Knights moved into a tie for first through the opening round of the Dr. Edwin B. Cottrell Invitational.
Shaunak Rama (Bryanston, South Africa) shot a 2-over-par 73 and 
Giovanni Delorenzi (Reggio Emilia, Italy/International School of Modena) carded a 74 to lead Gannon into a tie for first place with rival IUP at Penn Oaks Golf Club. Both teams shot a first-round 13-over 297 to tie for first place through Day 1 of the two-day tournament.
Ryan Ferry (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) and 
Elijah Ruppert (Fleetwood, Pa./Brandywine Heights) each turned in a 75 for Gannon while 
Abe Holmes (Barrie, Ontario/Barrie North Collegiate) recorded a 76.
All five of the players in the Gannon team lineup finished the first day among the top 14 in the field of 48 players. Rama was tied for fourth place, three shots behind leader Alex Swinnerton of IUP.  Delorenzi was tied for sixth, while Ferry and Ruppert were tied for 10th, and Holmes was in 15th.
Michael Wareham (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) shot an 81 while playing as an individual.
The second day of the tournament could be wide open because Millersville (298) was just one shot out of the lead and West Chester (301) was just four shots back.
