Del Castillo, Ferrer Sweep PSAC West Men's Soccer Weekly Honors

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – For the second week in a row the Gannon University men's soccer team has swept the PSAC West Men's Soccer awards. The PSAC announced its weekly honors this afternoon with Sergio Del Castillo (Madrid, Spain) selected the PSAC West Men's Soccer Athlete of the Week and Pau Ferrer (Valencia, Spain/ISES Isabel de Villena) chosen the Defensive Athlete of the Week. It marks the second week in a row and the third for his career for Del Castillo, while Ferrer is a first-time honoree. Del Castillo was also named the United Soccer Coaches Men's Soccer Division II Player of the Week last week.

The duo helped Gannon improve to 8-2-1 overall and 3-0-1 in PSAC West action with a pair of conference wins this past week. The Golden Knights claimed a 5-0 decision at Pitt-Johnstown on Wednesday followed by a 7-1 Homecoming victory on Saturday over California (Pa.).

A senior midfielder, Del Castillo has been on an incredible run of late and has vaulted to the top of Division II in both goals (18) and points (39) while scoring 15 goals in the last five matches. The native of Spain had an assist against Pitt-Johnstown before going off for five goals against California (Pa.), his third hat trick of the season. He also scored five goals against D'Youville.

Del Castillo's 18 goals are tied for tenth in a season and he has climbed into a tie for sixth place in career goals with 47, along with now ranking eighth in career points with 109.

Del Castillo earned plenty of postseason accolades a year ago, culminated by a spot on the United Soccer Coaches All-American Third Team. An outstanding student, he also earned CoSIDA and United Soccer Coaches Academic All-American honors.

Ferrer has been a strong contributor for the Golden Knights both offensively and defensively. Also from Spain, the redshirt freshman contributed a goal and an assist in the win over California (Pa.) while keying a Gannon defense that permitted just one goal in the two matches. The Golden Knights held UPJ and Cal to a combined eight shots.

Ferrer has started all 11 matches and has two goals and four assists.

Gannon returns to action on Wednesday, October 5 hosting Daemen at 7:00 p.m. at McConnell Family Stadium.
