ERIE, Pa. – Gannon University men's swimming and diving opens up the 2022-23 dual meet season at Clarion University with high hopes for a standout campaign. The team was in the pool earlier this month on Oct. 2 at the Buffalo State Bengal Relays, winning all nine co-ed mixed relays. Divers Kollin Schwab (Erie, Pa./McDowell) and Max Campbell (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Preparatory) also finished first and second, respectively, in both the mixed 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. Schwab scored a 239 to edge out Campbell's 224.30 in the 1-meter diving event and put up a 264.15 to Campbell's 173.10 in 3-meter diving.

The last time Gannon and Clarion faced off in a dual meet was during the 2020-2021 season, with Gannon claiming the 143-96 win and nine of 13 individual events. Current team member Stephen McCallum (Cape Town, South Africa/Wynberg Boys') won the 100 and 200 freestyle events at that dual, with Joey Decheck (Plum, Pa./Plum) (50 free), Alex Deemer (Connoquenessing, Pa./Butler Area) (500 free), and Josh Nel (Johannesburg, South Africa/American International) (100 breast) also notching first-place finishes. Clarion boasts the reigning PSAC Men's Swimming Freshman of the Year, David Bocci, who won three individual events (the 100 free, 200 free, and 200 breast) in the Golden Eagles' season-opening dual win over Grove City College.

With the start of a new season, the NCAA and PSAC Qualifying Standards have been updated and can be viewed here.

Looking ahead, the Golden Knights are scheduled to swim another dual meet at RIT on Saturday, Nov. 5 before preparing for Cleveland State's three-day Magnus Cup from Nov. 17 to Nov. 19.
