ERIE, Pa – The Gannon University men's soccer team returns to the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II National Rankings this week at No. 21 as the team prepares for a Wednesday night PSAC crossover game with Bloomsburg. Bloomsburg was ranked No. 22 in the nation last week before suffering a pair of losses and dropping out of this week's poll.

Tinashe Katsande (Norwich, England/Dereham Sixth Form College) led the Golden Knights to victory with a pair of second-half goals last Saturday versus Wheeling University and now leads the team in that category with five goals this season. Sergio Del Castillo (Madrid, Spain/) and Furkan Yildirim (Berlin, Germany/Thomas Mann Gymnasium) have also been potent offensive weapons and have each scored three goals.

The Golden Knights are rounding back into form after suffering a 2-1 setback defeat to Wilmington (Del.) on Sept. 18. The Wildcats have risen to a No. 10 ranking in the nation and remain unbeaten at 7-0-1. Wednesday's matchup with Bloomsburg is Gannon's final non-conference contest before PSAC West play begins at Cal (Pa.) this coming Saturday, Oct. 2.

Gannon has historically played the majority of games against Bloomsburg on the road—and have found success. The team is 11-2-1 in away games versus the Huskies and looks to continue that trend. Bloom has a balanced offensive attack, with at least twelve players having scored at least one goal in 2021, and freshman Anthony Schlee leads the team in both goals (three) and shots (11). The Huskies have also used three different goalkeepers (with senior Nathan Slotnick starting six games) and are tied for fourth-most goals allowed (10) in the conference. Conversely, the team has scored the second-highest total of goals (16) in the PSAC, with Gannon just behind at 14 goals (fourth-most.) Among PSAC teams with more than two games played, the Golden Knights and Seton Hill Griffins are tied for the least amount of goals allowed in the entire conference with just six.
