Lee Yaw With A Hat Trick To Lead The Golden Knights To Their Sixth Straight Win (Highlights)

The Short Story: The No. 4 Golden Knights remain perfect on the year after picking up their sixth straight win. Alex Lee Yaw (Jamestown, N.Y./Mercyhurst Prep) completed a hat trick Tuesday afternoon over Bloomsburg scoring all three of Gannon's goals in the first half. The Huskies would score one in the second, but Gannon took a 3-1 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Knights took a quick 3-0 lead in the first half with all three goals scored by Lee Yaw.
  • Lee Yaw's struck first in just the third minute of play. He drew a foul just outside the top of the box to set up for a free kick. Lee Yaw set the ball in to the bottom right of the net to put Gannon up 1-0 at the 2:15 mark.
  • Just ten minutes later, Lee Yaw would connect again for the Knights. Lennox Crews (Offenbach, Germany/Leibnizschule) used one touch on a free kick to Lee Yaw who would set up at the top of the box and send it into the bottom left of the net.
  • Lee Yaw completed the hat trick in the 38th minute. Toby Gower (Norwich, England/Long Stratton) passed from midfield down the right side of the field. Lee Yaw gave chase and shot from just outside the box connecting for his third goal of the game as they ball went into the right side of the net. Gannon led 3-0 at the break.
  • The Huskies avoided a shutout in the 62nd minute. Stephen Hollis sent the ball past Chandler Hallwood (Halifax, England/Woodhouse Grove) in the low left of the net. Carter Luckenbaugh took a free kick 50 yards out from the goal sending it to the near right post where Hollis was there to head it in.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Lee Yaw's hat trick was the first time a single player recorded three goals in a match since the 2017 season.
  • Lee Yaw finished with four total shots in the match.
  • Tinashe Katsande (Norwich, England/Dereham Sixth Form College) and Sergio Del Castillo (Madrid, Spain) each took two shots with one on goal.
  • Gower, Crews, and Chad Barrick (Gahanna, Ohio/Gahanna Lincoln) each recorded one shot on goal in the match.
  • James Randall (Brampton, Ontario/Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School) and Beknur Nurlanbek each tallied a shot.
  • Crews'early assist was his second of the season, while Gower's was his first of the year.
  • Hollis and Kacper Grycel each had three shots to lead the Huskies. Foti Malitas and Bryce Evans each had two.
  • The Huskies held a slight advantage taking 14 shots to the Knights' 13.
  • Hallwood played a full game in goal making three saves.
  • Brock Gould started in net for Bloomsburg and made four saves over the 90 minutes.
  • This is the best start to a season for Gannon as they are 6-0-0 to start the year. The last time they remained perfect was in the 2012 season when they started 9-0-0.
