Gannon leads all-time series 16-3-2
Last meeting: Oct. 2, 2021 – Gannon 4, Clarion 1 | RECAP

ERIE, Pa. – With a week remaining in the regular season, the playoff picture in the PSAC West is clear yet muddled. Gannon is one of three teams to have clinched a tournament berth. But the top three teams are separated by just three points in the standings, leaving the seedings and home quarterfinals games next Monday up for grabs.

Gannon plays twice this week, with both matches at McConnell Family Stadium. On Wednesday, November 3 the Lady Knights host Clarion in search of their seventh straight win. Last Wednesday's 1-0 win at Edinboro clinched the first PSAC playoff berth since 2017 and boosted Gannon to 10-2-2 overall and 10-2-2 in conference play. The seven straight victories are the most since the 2015 team opened the year with 17 consecutive wins.

Clarion enters the match with a 4-10-1 record and is 4-9-1 in the PSAC West. The Golden Eagles have lost their last four contests. Gannon handed Clarion a 4-1 defeat in the first meeting a month ago, The four goals were a season high. The Lady Knights have won the last meetings in the series, with Clarion's last win coming in 2010.

Gannon currently sits in second place in the PSAC West with 32 points, two points behind Slippery Rock. However, SRU has one game in hand, with one game remaining at Gannon on Saturday, November 6. That match could well be for the top seed in the Western Division. Mercyhurst is lurking in third place with 31 points and has two contests remaining. The Lakers play IUP on Wednesday, with the Crimson Hawks holding a slim lead over Edinboro for the fourth and final Western Division playoff berth.

Head coach Colin Petersen's Lady Knights were ranked sixth in the first NCAA Atlantic Region rankings announced last week. They have showcased a balanced scoring attack and a stingy defense. Gannon has allowed just 11 goals all year, with seven shutouts. That includes four in the last five contests.

Senior Kennedy Solymosi (Eastlake, Ohio/Lake Catholic) has seen the majority of action in goal, showing a 9-1-2 record with a 0.80 GAA and an .818 save percentage. She ranks sixth in the PSAC in save percentage and GAA. Her five shutouts are tied for ninth in a season, and she has moved into a tie for fifth place in career shutouts with 10.

Eight different players have scored goals. Taylor Lewis (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek), a redshirt senior forward, leads the way with seven goals and three assists for 17 points. She scored twice in the first meeting with Clarion. Sarah Fails (Girard, Pa./Villa Maria) and Kayla Bevacqua (Welland, Ontario/Notre Dame) are next with 11 goals on the strength of four goals and three assists. Freshman midfielder Gabby Boden (Butler, Pa./Butler) adds four goals and an assist for nine points.

Kylee Cress (5 goals, 5 assists) and Alayna Wicker (5 goals) account for 10 of Clarion's 14 goals on the season. Both are local players from nearby McDowell High School, with Cress a sophomore and Wicker a freshman.
