ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon men's golf team will return to action at the Hal Hansen Invitational hosted by Clarion University. The action will get underway on Sunday at Grove City Country Club in nearby Grove City, Pa. Second round action is set for Monday.
 
GU returns to the course after finishing first at the Allegheny Invitational last weekend in Meadville, Pa. Gannon edged out Mercyhurst by four shots at the event. Connor Bennink (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville) finished first at the event with a 69 in the first round and a 71 in round two. As a result of his first-place finish, Bennink earned PSAC men's golf Athlete of the Week for the third-consecutive week. This season, Bennink has finished second at the UC Invitational, tied for second at the Mercyhurst Invitational, finished in a tie for sixth at the Bud Elwell Fall Classic, and topped the leaderboard at Allegheny during the teams last outing.
 
Also, during the Allegheny Invitational, Michael Wareham (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) and Jacob Mertz (Williamsville, N.Y./St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute) turned in top-10 finishes playing as individuals for the Golden Knights. Wareham finished in a tie for fourth, and Mertz finished ninth. Abe Holmes (Barrie, Ontario/Barrie North Collegiate) rounded out Gannon's top 10 finishes at the event by shooting a 150 to finish in a tie for 10^th.
 
So far this season, Gannon has finished no worse than fourth at an event. They opened the season with a fourth-place showing at the University of Charleston (W.Va.) Invitational, before rebounding with a win at the Mercyhurst Invitational. On September 20, the Golden Knights finished third at the Bud Elwell Fall Classic, before taking first place for the second time this season at the Allegheny Invitational last week.
 
Following play in Grove City, the Gannon men's golf team will prepare for the PSAC Championship, which is slated for Oct. 15-17 in Hershey, Pa.
