ERIE, Pa – The Gannon University women's soccer team enters Saturday's PSAC West contest versus Clarion on a two-game winning streak and are unbeaten since Sept. 11's 1-0 loss to Seton Hill.

The Golden Knights have not taken the pitch in the week following an overtime victory against then-No. 11 Edinboro on Saturday, Sept. 25. Kayla Bevacqua's (Welland, Ontario/Notre Dame) golden goal in the first overtime handed the Fighting Scots their first loss of 2021 and has dropped them out of the United Soccer Coaches Division II Women's Soccer National Poll. Gannon (3-1-2) is currently ranked third in the PSAC West standings behind Edinboro (4-2) and first-place Slippery Rock (6-1.)

The Golden Knights' defensive record has been impressive in 2021, with only five goals allowed (tied for third-least in the entire PSAC.) Gannon's offensive trio of Sarah Fails (Girard, Pa./Villa Maria) (27 shots), Taylor Lewis (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) (24), and Bevacqua (24) are all in the conference top ten in that category.

Gannon's recent record against the Golden Eagles has been fruitful, with a 3-0 victory in the spring of 2021 in which Lewis and Bevacqua both tallied goals. The Golden Knights have won nine straight matches against Clarion and have not lost to them since 2010.

Only three players have scored for Clarion in 2021—Kylee Cross and Alayna Wicker each have two goals to lead the team, while Abby Sullivan has also tallied. Cross has also assisted on three of those goals. Sophomore Alexandra Velez has started all six of Clarion's games in front of goal, faced 97 shots, made 30 saves, and carries a 2.57 goals-against-average into Saturday's match.

Gannon has a busier week ahead, with a midweek away match against PSAC West-leading Slippery Rock on Wednesday, Oct. 6 at 1:00 p.m. before returning home on Oct. 9 to host Pitt-Johnstown at 5:00 p.m.
