HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon went to work with three runs during its first at-bat after two quick outs. A double by sophomore Elijah Quiceno (Berryville, Va./Stonebridge) and walks to Cox and junior Dominic Mori (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) loaded the bases, before senior Matt Oruch (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) opened the scoring with an RBI single up the middle. Senior Gregory Nicolia (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) followed with a two-run single to cap the inning.
  • The Golden Knights extended their lead to 5-0 with a pair of runs during the second inning. Senior Mike Colosi (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara Falls) scored on Quiceno's RBI ground-out and senior Charles Benack (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) crossed the plate on Cox's RBI single.
  • Gannon broke the game wide open with a five-run explosion during the fourth inning. A two-run double by Cox highlighted the frame. Run-scoring doubles by Quiceno and Mori along with an RBI single by senior Cody Callaway (Elyria, Ohio/Midview) accounted for the tallies.
  • Redshirt sophomore Jared Beach (McDonald, Pa./Canon-McMillan) pushed the lead to 11-0 with a pinch-hit home run on the first pitch he saw in the fifth inning.
  • Gannon's motor never slowed down with six more runs during the seventh inning. The first three runs crossed the plate on a three-run bomb by Cox to right center. The final three runs came home on bases-loaded walks to sophomore Austin O'Shei (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) and Beach, as well as an RBI single by senior Joey DiBridge (Irwin, Pa./Hempfield Area).
  • The scoring finally came to an end when Cox led off the eighth inning with his second home run in as many at-bats, completing the scoring in an 18-0 victory.
