HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME ONE
  • Gannon immediately pounced on Pitt-Johnstown with three runs during the top of the first inning. Junior Matt Oruch (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) led off with a single through the right side and scored on junior Mike Colosi (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara Falls)'s triple to right field. Redshirt sophomore Nate Cardy (Franklin, Pa./Franklin) followed with an RBI single up the middle and later scored on junior Cody Callaway (Elyria, Ohio/Midview)'s RBI single to left field.
  • Pitt-Johnstown wasted little time responding with a pair of runs during its first at-bat. The Mountain Cats then tied the contest at three with another run in the second inning.
  • The two teams traded runs over the next two innings. Gannon produced its run during the top of the third inning. After two outs, junior Kyle Cox (Dorchester, N.J./Millville) singled up the middle. He moved to third on a Callaway double to left field and scored on Restuccia's infield single.
  • Gannon appeared to break the game open with a four-run fifth inning that snapped a 4-4 tie. Restuccia broke the deadlock with a two-out, two-run double to right field.
  • The inning was over after a strikeout on a pitch in the dirt, but a throwing error by the UPJ catcher allowed the hitter to reach base. Freshman Austin O'Shei (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) made the mistake hurt four pitches later with a two-run single up the middle for an 8-4 lead.
  • Pitt-Johnstown countered once again. This time, the Mountain Cats clawed all the way back in one at-bat with four runs during the bottom of the fifth inning.
  • UPJ tacked on what proved to be the two winning runs during the bottom of the sixth inning.
  • Gannon put the tying runs on base during the top of the seventh inning, but stranded the runners at first and second base before falling by a 10-8 count.

  • Gannon had a hitter reach first base during each of the next three innings, but was unable to advance any further.
  • Pitt-Johnstown added an insurance run with a sixth-inning solo home run that proved to be the difference because Cardy drilled his fourth homer of the season as a pinch hitter during the top of the seventh inning.
