GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER
HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME ONE
  • Clarion slipped ahead with single runs during the second and third innings. The first run was unearned due to an error.
  • Gannon got the offense going in the fourth inning, plating three runs to gain the lead. Senior Sean Sutton (Toronto, Ontario/Brebeuf College) and junior Aaron Cox (Dorchester, N.J./Millville) led off with consecutive doubles. Cox then stole third and tied the game when he beat a throw home on freshman Matt Oruch's (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) grounder to the shortstop.
  • Oruch repeated Cox's running success with his own steal of second base, before scoring the go-ahead run on freshman Ross Dirienzo's (Somerset, Pa./Somerset) two-out single to center field.
  • Trailing 3-2, Clarion erupted for five runs with two outs during the sixth inning. The Golden Eagles did the damage with only three hits due to three walks and a bases-loaded hit by pitch.
  • Gannon loaded the bases during the top of the seventh inning, but Clarion closer Kyle Armagost struck out the final two hitters to preserve the victory.

GAME NOTES - GAME ONE
  • Dirienzo went 2-for-3 with one RBI out of the ninth spot in the line-up.
  • Four other Golden Knights recorded one hit each.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Gannon saw its season-high four-game win streak snapped with the setback.
  • Dirienzo recorded multiple hits for the third time in 10 starts this season.
  • Gannon batted first despite playing at Gannon University Field. Clarion was considered the home team since the games were originally scheduled for Friday at the Golden Eagles' home field.

HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME TWO
  • Gannon opened the scoring during the second inning. Aaron Cox drew a one-out, 10-pitch walk. Freshman Kyle Cox (Dorchester, N.J./Millville) followed with a single to right field, before Oruch's double to right field scored the first run.
  • Clarion exploded during its half of the inning, scoring four times on five hits. Eight batters came to the plate, before the Golden Knights threw out Tyler Falk at home plate for the final out. A perfect relay from Kyle Cox to junior Jared Wiesen (Girard, Ohio/Liberty) to redshirt senior Jeff Bellanca (Grand Island, N.Y./St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute) cut down the runner.
  • Gannon rallied to tie the contest with three runs during the top of the fourth inning. With one out, Aaron Cox doubled to left center and Kyle Cox singled through the right side. Oruch followed with a single to right field, cutting the deficit to 4-2.
  • Redshirt junior Mark DeVita's (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) RBI double brought Gannon within 4-3. Oruch then scored the tying run on Dirienzo's sacrifice fly to center field.
  • Clarion broke the 4-4 deadlock with a pair of runs during the bottom of the fifth inning. The Golden Eagles went ahead with a sacrifice fly, before Mike Lockart's two-out double provided an insurance run.
  • Gannon clawed back within a run during its sixth-inning at-bat. Kyle Cox led off with a triple into the right center gap. He immediately scored on Oruch's ground-out to shortstop, cutting the deficit to 6-5.
  • The Golden Knights later had a runner on second base with one out, but Clarion starter Sean White got out of the jam with a pair of ground-outs.
  • Armagost worked a perfect seventh inning to secure the 6-5 Clarion win.

GAME NOTES - GAME TWO
  • Kyle Cox finished 3-for-3 with two runs.
  • Oruch went 2-for-3 with one run and three RBIs.
  • Gannon's 6-7-8 hitters (Kyle Cox, Oruch, DeVita) combined to go 7-for-9 with three runs and three RBIs.
  • Senior Dustin Godden (Brampton, Ontario/Mayfield Secondary) tossed a scoreless inning of relief work.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Gannon and Clarion split a four-game series for the second consecutive season.
  • Kyle Cox recorded a season-high three hits for the fourth time during the last 10 games. He scored multiple runs for the third time this season. The leftfielder produced his 10th multiple-hit game of the season, the second-highest total on the team.
  • Aaron Cox extended his hit streak to seven games with hits during both games on Sunday. He scored multiple runs for the sixth time this season.
  • Oruch drove home a season-best three runs, generating multiple RBIs for the third time this season.

  • First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
  • Seton Hill is ranked sixth in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) national rankings.
