HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME ONE
  • Limestone (S.C.) got on the board first with a pair of runs during the bottom of the second inning.
  • Both teams scored single tallies during the fourth and fifth innings, leaving Limestone with a 4-2 advantage after five frames.
  • Gannon posted its first run with three consecutive singles from freshman Kyle Cox (Dorchester, N.J./Millville), junior Aaron Cox (Dorchester, N.J./Millville) and senior Eric Lewandowski (Souderton, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) during the fourth inning.
  • Freshman Gregory Nicolia (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) drew a lead-off walk during the top of the fifth inning, before moving to third base on a single by junior Jared Weisen (Girard, Ohio/Liberty) and a fielder's choice. He then scored on a sacrifice fly by redshirt senior Jeff Bellanca (Grand Island, N.Y./St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute).
  • Trailing by two, Gannon sent 12 batters to the plate while scoring eight times with only six hits during the top of the sixth inning. The rally was aided by a hit by pitch and a pair of walks.
  • Aaron Cox ignited the outburst with a lead-off homer to left field, his first of the season and eighth of his career. The other seven runs came with two outs. The Golden Knights tied the game at four when senior Sean Sutton (Toronto, Ontario/Brebeuf College) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Bellanca drove home the go-ahead run with a bases-loaded walk.
  • Gannon extended the lead with a two-run single up the middle by Kyle Cox, an RBI double to left field by Aaron Cox and a two-run single up the middle by Lewandowski.
  • Limestone countered with another run during the bottom of the frame, but couldn't get any closer during its final two at-bats.

GAME NOTES - GAME ONE

A third run crossed the plate with a ground-out by Wiesen, before redshirt junior Mark DeVita (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) capped the rally with a two-out, RBI double.
