CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Gannon men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed at the Case Western Reserve Quad-Meet on Saturday afternoon at the Veale Natatorium. The Lady Knights went 2-1 in the quad meet capturing wins over Grove City, 164-126, and host Case Western Reserve, 170-123, but fell to Kenyon, 198-89. The Golden Knights recorded a 1-2 mark picking up a win over Grove City, 148-135, but dropped decisions to both the host No. 14 Spartans, 172.50-106.50, and Kenyon, 219-74. 

Gannon finished with 26 combined Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying times, including 12 for the Lady Knights and 14 for the Golden Knights.

Leading the Lady Knights was sophomore Madeline Summers (Lake Stevens, Wash. / Lake Stevens) with three PSAC qualifying times. Summers finished second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:11.84), second in the 400-yard IM (4:43.59) and third in the 200-yard backstroke (2:11.07). Freshman Gabrielle Borza (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny) captured a pair of PSAC qualifying times off runner-up performances in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:07.90) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:27.02).

In the 200-yard backstroke, three Lady Knights recorded PSAC qualifying times. Joining Summers were freshman Samantha Favret (Watertown, N.Y./Watertown) in second (2:10.88) and junior Amanda Knapp (Twinsburg, Ohio / Twinsburg) in fifth (2:13.84). Knapp also added a conference qualifying time in her third-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.70).

Sophomores Morgan Lydic (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio / Cuyahoga Falls) and Emily Nottingham (Titusville, Pa. / Titusville) each collected PSAC qualifying times in the 50-yard freestyle. Lydic placed second overall (24.47), while Nottingham finished fourth (25.09). Lydic also recorded a conference time in the 100-yard freestyle (53.07), taking home the top spot in the event. In addition, freshman Abigail Wu (Milford, Ohio / Ursuline Academy) in earned her first-career PSAC qualifying time in the 400-yard IM with a fifth-place finish (4:51.46).

The Lady Knights recorded a pair of second-place performances in the two relay events this afternoon. The team of Favret, Borza, Summers and Lydic recorded a time of 1:50.43 in the 200-yard medley relay, while the team of Favret, Nottingham, junior Katie Joseph (McDonald, Ohio / McDonald) and Lydic clocked a time of 1:40.38 in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Sophomore Denys Fedrochenko (Zaborizhia, Ukraine) and junior Adam Chrzanowski (Erie, Pa. / Cathedral Prep) each collected three PSAC qualifying times. Fredrochenko's conference qualifying times came through two top-performances in the 200-yard freestyle (1:43.47) and 500-yard freestyle (4:43.74) and a third-place finish in the 400-yard IM (4:18.19). Chrzanowski nabbed PSAC qualifying times off runner-up finishes in the 100-yard butterfly (52.59) and 200-yard backstroke (1:55.31) followed by a third-place outing in the 1000-yard freestyle (9:56.04).

The Golden Knights also took home three PSAC qualifying times in one event like the Lady Knights. For the Golden Knights it was the 200-yard freestyle. Joining Fedrochenko were sophomore Ryan Carter (Yorktown, Va. / Grafton) in fifth (1:47.46) and freshman Drew Wolter (Clarksville, Md. / Atholton) in seventh (1:47.91). Wolter also finished seventh in the 500-yard freestyle (4:58.15), earning a conference qualifying time.

Sophomore Michael Lawrence (Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario / Notre-Dame-des-Grands-Lacs) placed fifth in both the 1000-yard freestyle (10:06.04) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:16.44) to post PSAC qualifying times.

Rounding out Gannon's PSAC qualifiers are junior Logan Bissell (Yorktown, Va. / York) and freshman Matt Loughner (Jeannette, Pa. / Penn-Trafford). Bissell qualified in his fourth-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.62), while Loughner placed 10th in the 50-yard freestyle (22.47).

In his first meet for the Golden Knights after a successful season with the water polo team, junior Nathan Bean (Houston, Texas / Cypress Creek) made his debut with a conference time in the 50-yard freestyle (21.87), missing the NCAA B cut by .82 seconds

Both men's relay teams registered fourth-place finishes. The team of Loughner, Carter, Bean and Chrzanowski recorded a time of 1:28.13) in the 200-yard freestyle (1:28.13) and the squad of Carter, Bissell, Bean and Fedrochenko held clocked a time of 1:38.30 in the 200-yard medley.

Gannon returns to action on Tuesday, Nov. 26, at crosstown-opponent Penn State-Behrend with the first event set for 5 p.m.
