Complete Results from Third Session of Indiana (Pa.) Invitational
INDIANA, Pa. – The Gannon swim teams added eight more gold medals and 10 more Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying times during the last two sessions of the Indiana (Pa.) Invitational Saturday as both squads split two head-to-head match-ups.
The women's team defeated Bloomsburg 193-182, but fell to Indiana (Pa.) 252-135. The results were the same for the men's squad which beat Bloomsburg 243.50-115.50 and came up short against IUP 228.50-161.50.
Katie Joseph (McDonald, Ohio/McDonald) was a quadruple-winner during Saturday's two sessions. The true freshman picked up individual victories in the 100-yard freestyle (54.04) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:58.47). Both times met conference standards.
The McDonald, Ohio, native then participated on two winning relay teams. She teamed with Adelee Choban (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny), Michelle Fischl (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Salem) and
Kaitlyn Bosy (Courtice, Ontario/Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary) to win the 800-yard freestyle relay with a combined time of eight minutes and 3.12 seconds.
The 400-yard freestyle relay group of Fischl, Amanda Knapp (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg), Joseph and Bosy then concluded the invitational with a first-place time of three minutes and 40.26 seconds.
Fischl was a triple-winner during Saturday's sessions. In addition to swimming with the winning relay teams, the freshman touched the wall first in the 100-yard backstroke with a 1:01.51 stopwatch. She also added a PSAC-qualifying time of 2:12.16 during a second-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke.
Katie Vincent (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) and Steph Graham (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) rounded out Gannon's PSAC-qualifying times while capturing silver medals. Vincent accomplished the feat with a 2:29.54 time in the 200-yard breaststroke while Graham was clocked in 2:14.35 during the 200-yard butterfly.
Adam Chrzanowski (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) headlined the men's performances on Saturday as a double-winner. The true freshman won the 100-yard backstroke (53.57) during the morning session, before being the best in the 200-yard backstroke (1:57.58) during the final session. Both times were good enough to surpass PSAC-qualifying standards.
Nick Wolhaupter (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) recorded a pair of conference-qualifying times. The freshman captured his fourth title of the weekend by winning the 100-yard freestyle in 48.53 seconds. He earlier finished third in the 100-yard butterfly with a 54.10 time.
Jared Griffard (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho/Coeur d'Alene) was the final Golden Knight to raise a gold medal, touching the wall first in the 200-yard breaststroke. His time of 2:15.37 also met conference standards.
Other PSAC-qualifying times on the men's side during Saturday's action included
Logan Bissell (Yorktown, Va./York) in the 400-yard IM (2nd, 4:22.70),
Ethan Chase (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) in the 100-yard butterfly (2nd, 52.80) and the 100-yard freestyle (4th, 49.15),
Kyle Lazenby (Erie, Pa./McDowell) in the 100-yard backstroke (2nd, 55.15) and
Alex Dovale (Cape Town, South Africa/South African College) in the 200-yard butterfly (2nd, 2:00.87).
The Gannon women's team concluded the regular season with an 11-6 dual record. The men's squad finished with a 7-7 dual-meet slate. Both teams will have the next two and half weeks to prepare for the 2012 PSAC Championships hosted by Gannon February 16-19 at Cumberland Valley High School in Mechanicsburg, Pa.
