Gannon Women's Water Polo Team Entertains No. 12 Indiana Friday Night

The Gannon women's water polo team looks to make history Friday night against NCAA Division I Indiana.
ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon women's water polo team begins its final homestand of the season Friday, April 8 against NCAA Division I Indiana at the Carneval Athletic Pavilion. The Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) match is set for 5 p.m.

Gannon (8-13, 0-3) comes into Friday's fray red hot, winning a season-high seven consecutive matches and eight of its last 10. The Lady Knights are coming off perfect showings at the Penn State Behrend Invitational and the Grove City Tournament. The squad defeated Penn State Behrend (13-3), Notre Dame (Ohio) (17-6) and Chatham (20-13) at the Penn State Behrend Invitational on March 26. It then swept Grove City (14-6) and Washington & Jefferson (14-4) at the Grove City Tournament on April 2.

Head coach Don Sherman's club is lead by Colleen Harriger (Erie, Pa. / McDowell), who is nation's ninth-leading scorer with 54 goals. The junior also leads the Lady Knights in steals with 42. Molly Andrews (Tustin, Calif. / Tustin) is second on the team in scoring with 35 goals.

Katelyn Jacobs (Brookfield, Ill./Lyons Township) and Kelsey Rzymek (Erie, Pa./McDowell) complete the double-digit scorers with 12 and 11 goals, respectively. Janelle Bartman (Darien, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) and Libbie Guina (Houston, Texas/Clear Brook) have split time in goal. Bartman has made 54 saves while Guina has added 28.

Indiana brings a 15-10 overall record and 0-1 CWPA mark into the weekend. The Hoosiers are ranked 12th in the latest national rankings and third in the latest CWPA top 10 poll. The squad had won eight consecutive matches until falling 9-8 to sixth-ranked Michigan on March 26.

Four Hoosiers have already reached the 30-goal plateau. Senior Nicole Redder leads the attack with 36 goals. Freshman Shae Fournier (34), junior Jakie Kohli (33) and senior Lauren Wyckoff (32) complete the group.

Gannon has never defeated Indiana with the Hoosiers holding a 14-0 record in the all-time series. Indiana posted a 13-1 victory in the last meeting between the two programs on March 27, 2010.
