ERIE, Pa. – One day after both Gannon swim teams won team titles at the Westminster (Pa.) Relay Meet, the squads completed a successful weekend with three more victories Saturday afternoon at the Carneval Athletic Pavilion. The women's team swept a pair of decisions against Assumption (Mass.) (84-38) and Lake Erie (113-9) while the men's squad earned a 140-100 victory against Lake Erie.
The Gannon women's team dominated Saturday's action, winning 11 of the 16 events. In the process, the Lady Knights produced 10 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying times.
Katie Joseph (McDonald, Ohio/McDonald) got accustomed to touching the wall first as a quadruple-winner. The true freshman won a pair of individual events with PSAC-qualifying times in the 50-yard freestyle (24.98) and the 100-yard freestyle (53.77). She was also part of Gannon's winning relay teams in the 400-yard medley (4:08.57) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:41.60).
Katie Vincent (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) and
Michelle Fischl (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Salem) were both triple-winners. Vincent took home gold in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.76) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:27.09). Both times met conference standards. She also participated on the winning 400-yard medley relay team.
Fischl raised her hand victorious with PSAC-qualifying times in the 200-yard backstroke (2:12.39) and the 200-yard IM (2:14.29). The true freshman then completed her day with a title on the 200-yard freestyle relay team.
Kaitlyn Bosy (Courtice, Ontario/Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary) was the final multiple-winner, securing first-place trophies in the 200-yard freestyle (PSAC-qualifying 2:00.76) and as part of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team.
Other women champions included
Rachel King (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena) in the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.99) and
Jacqueline Rzymek (Erie, Pa./McDowell) in the 100-yard butterfly (PSAC-qualifying 1:00.41).
Two other conference-qualifying times were posted during second-place finishes.
Steph Graham (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) produced the right time (2:14.57) while finishing the 200-yard butterfly in second place. Rzymek added her second qualifying-time with a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (54.17).
On the men's side, Gannon needed only six victories to claim a 40-point victory against Lake Erie due to multiple top-three finishes. The Golden Knights recorded six PSAC-qualifying times in the process.
Alex Dovale (Cape Town, South Africa/South African College) and Adam Chrzanowski (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) led the way as double-winners. Dovale posted both wins during individual events, being the best in the 200-yard butterfly (2:01.53) and the 100-yard freestyle (50.19). His 200-yard butterfly time met conference standards.
Chrzanowski took home first place in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a PSAC-qualifying time of 10 minutes and 10.28 seconds, before helping the 200-yard freestyle relay team win in one minute and 32.30 seconds. The true freshman also posted a conference-qualifying time of 4:50.56 during a second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle.
Other men champions included Nick Wolhaupter (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) in the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.78) and
Ethan Chase (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) in the 100-yard butterfly (PSAC-qualifying 52.45).
The winning 200-yard freestyle relay team featured Chrzanowski, Jon Hoobler (Franklin, Pa./Rocky Grove), Mike Decsey (Mississauga, Ontario/Erindale) and Mike Kneidinger (Erie, Pa./McDowell).
The afternoon was completed with PSAC-qualifying times during second-place finishes by Wolhaupter in the 100-yard butterfly (52.45) and Jared Griffard (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho/Coeur d'Alene) in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:14.46).
The Gannon women's team improved to 2-1 with Saturday's victories. Assumption dropped to 4-4 while Lake Erie remained winless at 0-4. The Gannon men's squad stayed undefeated at 3-0 while moving Lake Erie to 0-3.
Both Gannon swimming and diving teams return to action Saturday, November 5 against California (Pa.) and Le Moyne at the Carneval Athletic Pavilion. The tri-meet is scheduled for 1 p.m.
