After another record-breaking weekend in the pool, Gannon standout
Mariia Melnyk (Kyiv, Ukraine/Education Center Optima) has been named the PSAC Women's Swimmer of the Week.
It marks her second weekly honor of the season and the third weekly award earned by the Gannon swimming program this year.
Melnyk delivered a dominant three-day performance at the 2025 Malone Invitational, setting a program record on each of the first two days before lowering her own mark in the 100 freestyle during Saturday's finals.
She broke the school record in the 50 freestyle on Thursday with a winning time of 23.42, followed by a new record in the 100 backstroke on Friday at 55.85.
She capped the weekend by resetting her own 100 freestyle record after posting 50.70, nearly a full second ahead of the field.
Melnyk totaled multiple individual victories in the 50 free, 100 free, and 100 back while contributing to winning relay performances in the 200 medley, 400 medley, and sprint free relays.
Her consistency and top-end speed helped fuel Gannon's strong overall showing, and her performance played a major role in the Golden Knight women taking the top spot at the Invitational.
In her freshman campaign, Melnyk now owns school records in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, and 100 backstroke and has quickly established herself as one of the top emerging swimmers for the Golden Knights.
Gannon returns to competition on January 17 for a home tri-meet against Oberlin and Malone at 1:00 p.m.
