ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon women's basketball team dropped a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division game at the Hammermill Center against California (Pa.) by an 86-61 score Saturday afternoon.
It marks the first PSAC Western Division home loss for Gannon since joining the PSAC. At home the Lady Knights were a perfect 7-0 the first two seasons in the league and won the first contest this season over Lock Haven.
Gannon faced a 42-29 deficit at the half and were unable to stop the Vulcans from extending their lead to as many as 25 during the second half.
Gannon shot 45.8 percent from the field compared to 58.5 percent for the Vulcans. California scored 31 points off 23 Gannon turnovers and added 17 fastbreak points. Five different Vulcans reached double figures.
Gannon was lead by Danielle Tucker (Rochester, N.Y. / East) who added 17 points and seven rebounds in the losing effort. Caitlyn Lowe (Gettysburg, Pa. / Gettysburg) added 13 points on 4-of-9 shooting, also dishing out four assists. Jennifer Papich (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Fox Chapel) netted 12 points.
California (Pa.) was lead by Kayla Smith's 22 points and 10 rebounds. Danielle Luckett added 20 points on 9-of-15 shooting.
Gannon fell to 8-7 this season while California (Pa.) improves to 12-4. The Lady Knights are 1-3 in conference play. California now stands at 3-1 in the PSAC Western Division.
