The Gannon Lady Knights return home after a road loss to Edinboro to take on the California (Pa.) Vulcans on Saturday, January 21 at the Hammermill Center. Game time is slated for 1:00 p.m.
The Gannon Athletics Hall of Fame Class will be honored at halftime of the men's game as part of induction ceremonies taking place Saturday night. The Class consists of eight individuals and the 1962 bowling team. Former women's basketball coach Judy Saurer is among those being honored.
The Lady Knights will look to remain undefeated at home in PSAC Western Division games. Gannon was a perfect 7-0 during both the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons and is 1-0 so far this season.
Gannon and California (Pa.) have faced off six times over the last two seasons. Most recently, Gannon defeated the Vulcans 77-68 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship game last season. Gannon won the first match-up of last season in overtime after
Julie Kleber (Suffern, N.Y. / Suffern) hit a three-pointer with 11 seconds left in regulation. The last loss to California (Pa.) came in the NCAA tournament during the 2008-09 season. The Lady Knights hold an 8-1 record against the Vulcans in games played at the Hammermill.
Gannon will face a challenge in grabbing rebounds on Saturday as the Vulcans lead the PSAC in rebounding margin at +9.9. California (Pa.) features the league's top rebounder (12.6) in Kayla Smith. The senior is also third in the conference in scoring, averaging 18.4 points and has been named PSAC Western Division Player of the Week three times this season.
