Gannon Wrestling Team Looks for Fifth Dual Win Against Ashland on Tuesday

The Golden Knights will face a second straight nationally ranked opponent in the No. 18 Ashland Eagles on Tuesday.

ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon wrestling team will look for its fifth overall and third straight dual win when the No. 18 Ashland Eagles come to the Hammermill Center on Tuesday, January 18 at 7 p.m. Gannon enters the match with a 4-1 record while the Eagles are 7-2.

Both teams enter Tuesday's match after recently knocking off nationally ranked opponents. Ashland defeated No. 15 West Liberty 26-10 and No. 17 Adams State 24-16 en route to a first place finish at the Mid-Atlantic Dual Championship. At the tournament, Adams State defeated the Golden Knights 22-16. 

Gannon's last action came in a 28-6 upset victory over No. 6 Pitt-Johnstown. Last season Gannon defeated the Eagles by a 35-6 score.

The Eagles are led by a pair of wrestlers each ranked eighth nationally. Scott Meyer is tabbed in the 133-pound class while Kyle Kanga is ranked in the 141-pound class. 

The Golden Knights also feature a pair of nationally ranked wrestlers in Ethan Swope (Luthersburg, Pa. / DuBois Area) and Tony Petrella (Reynoldsburg, Ohio / Bishop Hartley). Swope is eighth in the 149-pound class while Petrella is second at 174 pounds.

Gannon is led by Zack McKendree's (Vandergrift, Pa. / Kiski Area) and Swope's 18 wins this season. McKendree also boasts a team-high six major decision and five wins by pinfall.
