Biography

Petrella returns as Gannon’s top option in the 174-pound class … has previously wrestled at 165 and 174 during his collegiate career … is one of three returning national qualifiers for the Golden Knights.

2009-10: Named to the Academic All-America first team … wrestled at 174 and 184, finishing the season 15-8 overall and 7-5 in dual meets … earned a pin against Waynesburg and a technical fall (22-7) against Duquesne … won his opening match of the NCAA Division II East Region Championship with a pin of a Kutztown grappler … finished 5-1 at the tournament, taking third place … earned all-america honors after finishing fourth at the NCAA Division II Championship.

2008-09: Redshirted … went 4-4 while wrestling unattached … placed fourth at the Buffalo Open, going 4-2 with a pin.

2007-08: Was one of two Golden Knights to split time at 165 … went 8-9 with one pin … named to the Academic All-America honorable-mention team … opened the season with a third-place finish at the University of Buffalo Open, winning five of six matches … recorded three pins at the University of Buffalo Open … picked up dual victories against West Liberty State and Shippensburg … won one of three matches at the NCAA Division II East Regional.

2006-07: Posted an 8-10 record with three pins as a true freshman at 165 ... earned first career dual victory against Mercyhurst North East ... opened the season with two victories at both the University of Buffalo Open and National Catholic Invitational ... finished second at the Jamestown Jayhawk Invitational with a 2-1 record ... recorded a pin in each of his first three events.

High School: Wrestled for head coach Scott Shaw at Bishop Hartley (Ohio) High School ... was a two-time state qualifier ... was a State Runner-Up at 152 as a senior ... named to the All-District Super 12 and All-Metro teams ... finished fifth at the 2005 Junior Olympic Freestyle Tournament ... was a two-time team captain ... was a two-sport athlete, being named to the All-Central District football team as a center.
