FINDLAY, OH - Monday may have proved to be the only nice weather day of the 2026 women's golf East Regional. But although the temperature hit the 70's and the sun was out most of the day, the course played incredibly challenging.
Thick rough and challenging greens made for a trying day for the Golden Knights, who finished the first two rounds at 96-over par. Two rounds were played on Monday due to the impending weather on Tuesday and Wednesday in an effort to try to keep the tournament on schedule.Â
Two Gannon golfers have a place in the top 50 entering the final day of competition. Veteran Emily Donahue (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) put together a strong two round score to be GU's top finisher for the day (T42), while Cloe Mateo (Sabadell, Spain/Montcau la Mola) is tied for 49th.
The final round of competition is set to begin tomorrow morning, although there is uncertainty as to how many holes will get played with heavy rain expected throughout much of the day.
THE KNIGHTCAP - GANNON RESULTS
Emily Donahue (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) (T42 / +20) (R1: +11 / R2: +9)
R1: Donahue showed great balance throughout her round to start the tournament, stacking plenty of pars and keeping momentum going across multiple stretches. Her birdie on hole thirteen was a key highlight, and she complemented it with consistent par play to finish the back nine with a 38. She finished the round with an 83.
R2: Donahue opened with a birdie on one and paired it with a solid run of pars across both nines. She would par six of the nine holes on the back, finishing the final nine with a 40. Donahue is Gannon's top performer from the first day and will enter the final round in the top 45, currently tied for 42nd.
Cloe Mateo (Sabadell, Spain/Montcau la Mola) (T49 / +21) (R1: +11 / R2: +10)
R1: Mateo started off with a flash when she birdied her first hole of the day, the par four fifth. She would shoot a 41 on the front and make four additional pars on the back nine to card and 83 in the opening round.
R2: Mateo highlighted her round with a birdie on the par three sixth hole and backed it up with three more pars to close the front nine with a score of 39. She was the only Gannon golfer to shoot less than 40 on any set of nine holes in the second round.
Anastasia Lopes (Noverasco di opera (MI), Italy/ISTITUTI DEAMICIS MILANO) (T68/ +25) (R1: +12 / R2: +13)
R1: Lopes' round was anchored by four consecutive par saves on the end of the front nine and the start of the back nine (holes 8-11). She finished with an 84 in the opening round.
R2: Lopes converted a birdie on the sixth hole and added key pars during the round, particularly in the early and middle holes, finishing with 85.
Alexandria LeCureux (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) (T81 / +32) (R1: +17 / R2: +15)
R1: LeCureux was one of the first to deal with the tumultuous conditions on Monday. She finished with an 89 in the opening round, securing six pars.Â
R2: In the second round, LeCureux found her form on the front nine, carding a 41 to start round two. She finished the day by shooting an 87 in the second round.Â
Victoria Colmenares (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/ICL Academy) (R1: +15 / Did Not Play R2)
Colmenares finished the day with an 87, playing the first round and getting the start on Monday.Â
Gunnhildur Gunnarsdóttir (R2: +29 / Did Not Play R1)
R2: Gunnarsdóttir played the second round in place of Colmenares, finishing with a 101.
