KUTZTOWN, PA - Gannon is now tied for the top following the second round of the PSAC Championship meet in Kutztown, and it is now a clear two horse race for the team title. The Golden Knights and West Chester are level at 53 over par for the top spot in the team standings with 18 holes to play.
Anastasia Lopes (Noverasco di opera (MI), Italy/ISTITUTI DEAMICIS MILANO) remains in the lead in the individual field, while Alexandria LeCureux (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston), who finished in the top five a year ago, is second behind her teammate. Cloe Mateo (Sabadell, Spain/Montcau la Mola) remains inside the top ten, while Victoria Colmenares (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/ICL Academy) made a big jump on day two and is now tied with teammate Emily Donahue (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) for 14th overall.
The course proved to be challenging on the back nine as the afternoon went along. The Golden Knights found five total birdies on the afternoon but did well to maintain an advantage as conditions continued to dry and greens became more difficult to read.
Bloomsburg is third in the team standings, but are more than 50 strokes behind both Gannon and WCU for the lead. Just 18 holes remain tomorrow as Gannon will go for a seventh straight conference crown.
THE KNIGHT CAP
Anastasia Lopes (Noverasco di opera (MI), Italy/ISTITUTI DEAMICIS MILANO) (+7, 79) (+5 Overall)
Lopes started and remained in front throughout the course of the day and takes the individual lead into the final round by three strokes over teammate Alexandria LeCureux (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston). The freshman started with six consecutive pars and had just one bogey on the front nine to go out in one-over 36. She would birdie the 17th hole to finish with a 43 on the back nine to keep her lead in the individual standings.
Alexandria LeCureux (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) (+7, 79) (+10 Overall)
LeCureux is now in sole second, just three back of teammate Anastasia Lopes (Noverasco di opera (MI), Italy/ISTITUTI DEAMICIS MILANO). After a bogey on the first, she would have a consistent remainder of the front nine to shoot a two-over 37. A 42 on the back nine followed, including a stretch of four consecutive pars between the 11th and 14th holes. She's looking for a second straight year with a top five finish in this tournament.
Cloe Mateo (Sabadell, Spain/Montcau la Mola) (+7, 79) (+15 Overall)
Mateo had a blistering start to her round, carding a birdie on each of the par four second and fourth holes. She ended with a 38 on the front, and then found another birdie on the 13th hole. Her round of 79 put her in ninth, still inside the top ten.
Emily Donahue (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) (+15, 87) (+24 Overall)
Donahue would card an 87 in her penultimate round, including a string of six straight pars from the seventh to the 12th hole.
Victoria Colmenares (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/ICL Academy) (+12, 84) (+24 Overall)
Colmenares carded an 84 for the second straight round, including a birdie at the 18th hole.
