KUTZTOWN, PA - Gannon once again finds itself at the top of the leaderboard after the first round of the PSAC Championship meet in Kutztown, PA. The Golden Knights lead West Chester by four strokes for first place following the first 18 holes.

Anastasia Lopes (Noverasco di opera (MI), Italy/ISTITUTI DEAMICIS MILANO) leads the individual field after an even par 72 to start the tournament. Alexandria LeCureux (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston), who finished in the top five a year ago, is tied for second at three-over par, while Cloe Mateo (Sabadell, Spain/Montcau la Mola) is also inside the top ten. Every Gannon golfer sits inside the top 20 following the first round.

Gannon had eight total birdies on the day, with LeCureux leading the way with three, all of which came on the front nine holes.

Though there are still two more rounds remaining, the tournament is shaping up to be a two horse race. Both Gannon and West Chester have a more than 20 stroke lead on the next highest ranked team in the field.

THE KNIGHT CAP

Anastasia Lopes (Noverasco di opera (MI), Italy/ISTITUTI DEAMICIS MILANO) (E, 72)
Lopes paced the field on day one, firing an even-par 72 to move into a share of the individual lead. She was steady throughout the round, minimizing mistakes and capitalizing on scoring opportunities to post the top round of the tournament. She would find a birdie on the par four second hole and end the front nine a one-under 34. A birdie on the par four 10th followed, and a 38 on the back nine ended Lopes with a 72 on day one to be the only golfer at even par of better after 18 holes.

Alexandria LeCureux (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) (+3, 75)
LeCureux turned in a consistent round of 75, positioning herself among the top contenders individually. She would birdie the first hole, a 336 yard par four, and would birdie two additional holes on the front nine (sixth and ninth). A three-under 33 on the front had her in first place overall making the turn. LeCureux would shoot a 42 on the back nine to finish three over par, but currently sits tied for second overall on the individual leaderboard.

Cloe Mateo (Sabadell, Spain/Montcau la Mola) (+8, 80)
Mateo recorded an 80 in the opening round, contributing an important score toward the team total. Despite struggling on the opening five holes, the native of Spain would birdie the par four 11th hole and earn par on each of the final seven holes, finishing the back nine with an even par 37 to end the day at eight over. She remains inside the top 10, tied for eighth, heading into the second day.
