The No. 10 Gannon women's soccer team swept this week's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) honors, with junior defender
Hannah Shepard (Erie, Pa./McDowell) named Defensive Athlete of the Week and sophomore forward
Jessie Watkins (Bowie, Md./Bowie) earning Offensive Athlete of the Week accolades.
It marks the first PSAC weekly award of the 2025 season and the first career Athlete of the Week recognition for both Shepard and Watkins.
Shepard anchored the back line in a perfect 2–0 start, highlighted by a season-opening 3–0 shutout at Charleston (WV), who was picked first in the Mountain East Conference (MEC) South Division preseason coaches poll. She played 163 of 180 possible minutes as Gannon allowed just nine total shots and one goal across the two matches. The junior also provided a spark offensively, scoring in both games, including the opening goal just 3:39 into Saturday's 5–1 victory at Concord. The Mountain Lions entered the season projected third in the MEC South.
Watkins, the reigning PSAC West Freshman of the Year, continued her strong form into 2025 by finding the net in each of Gannon's first two matches. She tallied once in the opener at Charleston and added another at Concord, finishing the week with two goals on five shots (.400) while placing four attempts on target (.800).
The Golden Knights (2–0) will open PSAC play on Saturday, Sept. 13, hosting California (Pa.) at 6:30 p.m. as part of Homecoming Weekend at McConnell Family Stadium.
